Thanks Hayley, Keith, Ann and Kitty,

I am looking forward to it and I am also nervous, I applied for the job and after the interview the head rang to say one lady who applied had experience and ticked all the right boxes but she would like to keep my name on file for any other welfare jobs, then they rang on Wednesday and said the other lady could not take up the post so offered it to me, but when I told the school crosser I was starting he told me the other one had started but only lasted two days!

He needs to be able to interact with at least one other child, so you need to ask his teacher what games she has in the classroom that they can take outside to play and find a friend he can play with.

Most year 1 classes have things like sticklebricks, playdough and cars on mats etc that the little ones play with throughout the day or at breaktimes if it's wet.

Special needs aside it is important that he learns to share and play nicely with other children..................have fun and enjoy your new job:)))

I would think you'd need a selection of things because they soon get bored with doing the same thing.

If he is able to walk around, how about setting him a treasure hunt. simple things like a leaf. a brown stone, the number of windows on one wall or something like that.

year one, is that 5 year old or four? How about bubbles. have you met him? I guess you need to build a relationship with him first. have you got any pets that you could take in their photos and tell him about them?

If it was me Pat I would teach poker...Ask him he must be used to it and most proberley tell you what he wants to do...

Hi everyone ~~~~~~~
I am starting a new job tomorrow at the school where my grandchildren go, I will be looking after a young boy with special needs at lunch time, he wears calipers and is not supposed to run and jump but he is a typical boy so it is hard to stop him.
Can anyone suggest some things I could do with him that he would not get bored with, must add, he is in year one and does have some trouble communicating although he understands every word, (when it suits like most kids)
