I'd have got a clip round the ear for saying fart (there I wrote it in full....if it's good enough for a kids book it's good enough for GR lol) when I was younger lol xx

Its popped in our house

but leading on from you being shocked by them saying such things in a book meant for children, have you noticed some of the stuff said and done on childrens programs now? Im no prude at all but really dont think alot of things said and done on them should be on childrens programs.

The one that really gets me mad in Tracy Beaker which is about children in a care home. The children are pretty rude on it, lie to get their own way, food fights is the norm, show no respect for those looking after them and they wonder why some parents find it hard to control their children when they allow them to watch this sort of thing.

Im getting to sound like Mary whitehouse lol

Muffyxx Report 28 Jun 2009 21:33

I've never seen Tracy Beaker Jax........but I'll make sure I try to steer them away from it if I can in light of what you've said.

Mine have been watching Total Drama Island on Jetix........a kind of spoof kids reality programme.......what a load of old pap it is lol....it is a parental guidance one and it's not too bad really (bit of I fancy you etc but nowt ott that I've seen.... eldests mates all watch so she wants to......youngest doesn't bother with it and moans til she can watch Nick Jnr lol))however...I never thought I'd miss Balamory.........but ..............at least when that was on you didn't have to listen out for anything untoward lol xx

Ive had to ban Boo from watching it as I found her behaviour got worse after watching it.

She doesnt watch Jetix her fave was cbbc channel but now I find she watches pop girl more which doesnt seem as bad plus it has music on too and competitions which she enters online with me watching over her, was quick to teach her not to use the phone to enter lol

Wots wrong with botty burps?

Me, I fart. I remember the first time I heard the word Fart. It was on radio four and my Mum was totally aghast that such a word should be on the radio. It must have been 35 or more years ago.

It's what makes the English language great. The fact that it constantly evolves, words that were once acceptable fall out of use, then become taboo and finally return to respectability.

At first I was a bit taken aback (this is some years ago), but as our son didn't like reading, this actually got his attention! And, would you believe, he read the rest of that particular book!

So methinks they do it with an ulterior, and clever, motive. :-))

In our house it's f*rted, blown off, trumped, parped, let one go, 'done one', had a windy, flopped etc.
I've lived in so many different places - and each area had it's own word!

*tsk* now you know what I talk about at dinner parties! LOL

Berona Report 28 Jun 2009 23:41

My mother used to get embarrassed when the men used the term 'nipples' when talking about motors.

My OH worked in engineering and one of their products was chair-bases. He told me the technical term for the holes in the seats was "fart holes".

maggiewinchester Report 28 Jun 2009 23:43

Yay - if it's technical it's surely clean!?

F*rt, trump, let one fly, blow off, trouser cough, play the b*m trumpet, grunt, gruft, we use them all. Each has its own special merit and can be used to succinctly describe the noise made by the offending emission.

A great friend of mine "Shoots Bunnies" - my daughter finds this hilarious - in fact when we acquired our house bunny she wanted to call him "Shoot".

I've never heard anyone else use the expression!!
