I just received an email from a relative telling me that there is a new virus going around the interent which will wipe clean the hard drive of the computer if opened. Apparently it's the worst ever seen etc. Has anyone heard of anything like that happening or about to happen? Apparently everyone with email should be getting the virus in a few days in an email marked Postcards from Hallmark. Any ideas??

have a feeling this one is a hoax - been on here before - if you go to Snopes website it will confirm this

That's a hoax, just like 99% of all the informational emails you will receive.

Hi Alison
it pays to make a habit of checking snopes after every one of these so called warning emails.
It actually makes for quite interesting reading

Echo the comments above and there has never, ever been a virus created that can wipe your hard drive.

The full website address so that you can check these rumours is

I knew I could reply on the GR community. Thank you for your advice all. The person who sent this to me is a bit gullible at times and would believe anything I think, although the fact that the email had been passed around to so many people probably convinced her it was right. It also had a reference in it to having been checked by Snopes and that it was real according to them. I had never heard of Snopes but have since checked the site and found it listed as a hoax, it was interesting indeed to see that an earlier version of this message has been floating around since 2000, something which I will have to tell the person who sent it to me.

Thanks again,
Alison
