I sorted through my old school stuff many years ago Rose, and my reports said I should chat less and concentrate more (no change there then!)......and I seemed to be good at my lessons, above average in English and spelling, loved games and sports, but not good with Maths.....

One report said that I was bad at history......which was untrue......I had to miss the history lessons because I had to go to choir practice.......so how can they judge, when I was not there.....

That remark stuck with me, so l went to evening classes in social and economic history GCE and got a B+.........bad at history.......how very dare they........ :0))

One standard comment on all of mine from beginning to end - ..........

Could do better
Could do better
Could do better
Could do better
etc.
etc.
etc.

Monotonous!

"Michaels lack of concentration in class has prevented him from acheiving the results of which he is capable."

Next year-
"Michael has worked well this term. He still shows a lack of effort in the development of his full capacity. A very good Class Captain."

I dug mine out and mostly they were complimentary - I did well at school. One report said "Susan is a quiet, serious girl who works well. However, Susan feels the need to question her teachers at times and debate rather than listen." PMSL I forgot that one:))))

Uzzi, that happend to me much later in life. ;)

I'd done badly on a law school exam, a major factor being that in the middle of final exams I'd had to travel to another city and testifiy in a trial of a man on two charges of a violent crime, that I had suffered at the same man's hands two days later. Not conducive to doing well on exams.

So when the results came out I made an appointment with the prof and pleaded my case. When I was done, he looked at me and said: Who are you?

Going to class may be a waste of time in itself, but sometimes you wish you had. ;)

I like the oldies.

"Barbara is idle"
"Ann is noisy on the train"

Especially "Barbara is idle". I think I'll be laughing at that one all night. Sometimes, something just lodges in the funnybone. ;)

Janey was perfect in every way to the point of utterly boring and I can't remember a word ever written on a report card.

I do think they did know ...do they now I am not sure .....Sandie like you on Junior was top 5 lost 1st yr senior but 2nd yr I moved and 3yr I ended up with my old English teacher and Geog teach ....well what sort of report could I expect

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 29 Jun 2009 23:37

I think the worst report I had was

J is too easily lead

J has intelligence and if she put to studies instead of outside activities she would go far

J works well until she is distracted

J is not as green as she can be cabbage looking, do not be fooled in thinking she is led by anyone. There is only one person who leads and if you make lessons interersting J will learn.

THAT LONG AGO, I CAN'T REALLY REMEMBER, BUT KNOW I WAS TERRIFIED TO GET INTO TROUBLE AT SCHOOL, AS MY MOTHER WOULD'VE MADE ME SUFFER.
SHE WORE THE TROUSERS IN OUR HOUSE.
SHE ALSO NEVER KEPT ANYTHING FROM WHEN I WAS YOUNG, BUT SHE DID KEEP MY OLDER SISTER'S REPORTS AND CERTIFICATES.

FUNNILY ENOUGH I FOUND MY DAUGHTERS SCHOOL REPORTS LAST WEEK, AND SAT ON THE BED READING THEM. SHE WAS QUITE A CLEVER GIRL, BUT DID BUNK OFF SCHOOL AT TIMES!!

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 29 Jun 2009 23:19

......But do the teachers know who they were writing about?

Last September our grandson had an operation to put pins through both hips. He was in a wheelchair for a while at school, then on crutches, but still not allowed by surgeon to do PE,,,and yet he managed to go up a grade in that subject,on his report.
.......................................................................................

I was rather quiet and helpful, but should make an effort to finish set work .....

My reports were never good, I have a copy of my Mum's- she left school in 1922 and it is written in copperplate, stating what an excellent pupil she was. When I was a student nurse, one of our junior school teachers came in as a patient. she recognised me and said "you were a little devil at school"

I was a " goody-goody "..... a credit to my parents , that sort of thing .

Unfortunately I skived off for most of the final year at school and certainly didn't reach my full potential : )

Can't remember much about mine - I was the quiet, swotty sort - but my Mum has one of hers which simply says under one subject 'Barbara is idle' - lol!
