Anyone ever had any issues with the metals used in joint replacements?

My MIL had an ankle replacement last year and now has very severe eczema, the kind you see in text books. Seeing as she's never been prone to allergies before, it seems it must be either the titanium or the cobalt chromium used in the replacement. I found several reports of this problem using Google but her surgeon and dermatologist seem to think that isn't the problem.

Hi Karen,

I've sent her some articles to show to her doctor. She's using lots of steroid creams at the moment but it's not helping.

It was such a long recovery after the surgery, it won't be much fun to have the replacement removed and another one inserted.
