What a great loss.

June 30th 1984 Last sixpence minted in Great-Britain (in use since 1551)

Sally

Sally Report 30 Jun 2009 09:07

I didn't know the sixpence had been around for that long RB......I do know the earlier ones were silver.....

I have been wondering recently, with them removing Brittania from the coinage, and changing designs of the coins, that we are being prepared to accept the Euro.....

Running Bear Report 30 Jun 2009 09:39

when i see what i think are bargains, just have to have them, i'v stamps, coins, fag paper booklets, medals now started on camera's when will it end

Sally

Sally Report 30 Jun 2009 09:40

People go through stages of collecting things RB.......and you only know if it is getting out of hand if you cannot get rid of things like old newspapers and such........ my Uncle's flat was full of piles of newspapers, bless him....

I collected coins when young, but gave up when a couple were stolen when we took our hobbies into school, to be judged by teachers, and it was then that the coins went missing......

I have a £l note a 10/- note a 5000 dinar note from the old Yugoslavia..... and a 20 Mark Reichsbanknote dated 8th June 1907......very dirty.......I also had a German banknote with ein millionen mark stamped across it, when inflation took hold before the war......bought it in a German flea market, but it could be a fake.......just looked for it, and can't find it.....

and all them dinky cars etc i played with

Sally

Sally Report 30 Jun 2009 09:51

When you think about it RB and Candyman, collections are hedges against inflation........if you can afford to buy when prices are low and people are selling at this time........people always collect stuff, and medals are good to collect, they are always in demand.....

Sally

Sally Report 30 Jun 2009 09:54

I have a fold-away plastic box full of Lego.......if anyone wants to make an offer.......lol.....

We also had another box full of Star Wars figures, the original ones, but they have gone missing too.......my Son looked in the loft, but they were not there.......my Daughter was always good at car- boot sales though.....

thats just my way of thinking Sally, all my money investments have lost big time, so way not invest in medals etc and you also get a nice hobby to with it

Running Bear

Running Bear Report 30 Jun 2009 09:56

Sally

Sally Report 30 Jun 2009 09:57

Yes RB......medals can only appreciate in value, they are always in demand.....

......and Candyman, I had a big jar of marbles.......gone the same way as other things I suppose........daughter and her car-boot sales.....

Off to take dear old MiL to T****s........ :0))

Santa is being told to shift the pounds before Christmas - because the obese saint is failing to set a "good example" for children.

- Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women

it had to come, lol
