Having had a stroke at very beginning of April I can now walk abit and have good use of right hand, none of left but cant manage to push my samsung vacuum cleaner. Any advice on cleaners for disabled. I could be like this for a good while

Can't help with the query blackrose, but wanted to wish you well in recovering from your stroke.......it must be difficult trying to work out how to do things when you are hampered ....... good luck with your replies......maybe if you googled 'household equipment'' or if there is a site devoted to strokes and help......they might have some answers.....

I have a Bissell one, which I use to take up crumbs etc, and my friend and cousin, who find it difficult to push big ones also have them.

I got it from an advert from one of the papers.

Thanks everyone - going to do a search for Roomba. I just want to be able to do things for myself. I keep telling myself you can do it but youve just got to find a different way.

Has anyone actually got a Roomba because just watched demo video and it looks too good to true.

blackrose, I think at least two people here have them so keep this thread nudged and you will catch them sometime for their opinions, I seem to remember they were both very impressed.
I do hope you will continue to recover well from the stroke, again we have others on here who have fought back and done well, they are an inspiration to all.

thanks purple I would love to hear from anyone who has a Roomba or any other vacuum that is easy to use and also keen to hear from anyone else whos had a stroke

I have looked at those Magic Brooms and thought they looked useful, maybe I will get o.h. to send off for one, they are in several magazines I have noticed.

Susan with numbers has a Roomba and I am sure someone else got one on her recommendation - I will try and remember who it was and nudge them to tell you if they are useful.

The iRoomba does it all for you...google it and you will be able to see a demonstration. I swear by mine and have always thought it would be ideal for someone who has a disability...

(my disability is laziness :-)))

Ooops, sorry Susan, didn't notice it was you posted that bit, but I did think blackrose might have a problem with reading through lots of advertising bumph so thought a 'personal' reference might help her. Didn't know it was an iRoomba tho lol

thanks everyone - the Roomba is tempting its just getting one at the right price. OH thinks he can manage the vacuuming but he just wont do it often enough for my liking. would it pick up dog hairs

Hiya Blackrose... I have a Roomba, persuaded by that Susan with Numbers, lol...... I am still in love with him.... he has a name, Ba Ba Broom, lol.... and he is brilliant for everyday clean-ups. You have to make sure he has a clear floor space, as he can get caught.... but he does send out a little distress call when that happens (not often, incidentally). I like to think he is calling *mamma, mamma* lol

We have 4 cats, and one of those is a long hair... BaBaBroom manages that ok, except during the moult....... but I like to give a proper clean every week or three (;¬)) with the Miele.

I did find at first that the time I should have saved was spent absolutely enthralled by our new family member... and one of my cats, young Jethro... arrives out of nowhere, and perches on top of poor BaBa like some rodeo rider, lol Excellent entertainment value.

I would recommend it.... but it was quite expensive.
