my mother used to bake using tablespoons and teaspoons and everything turned out fine, yet when I measured the tablespoons on the scales they were not accurate at all. A flat tablespoon could be a lot less than one you had not levelled off.

What make and model is, to be so precise?

Nicholas

Nicholas Report 1 Jul 2009 18:20

Sorry to be so precise my work scales go to four decimal points.

Unless you are a pharmacy technician, there is no need to be that precise. For recipes, as long as the relative quanties are correct, you will be ok.

So, for most practical purposes, one kilo, or 1000g = 2lb - just divide accordingly, and ignore the small fractions

16oz - 500g
8oz - 250g
4oz - 125g
2oz - 60g
1 oz - 30g

No thanks Nick, I only needed small weights.
I used to know the small weights but I'm quite happy to remember my name these days! ;-0)

Julia, that is the sort of thing I do when searching, but today I just could not think of anything to type... I asked for Weights, then Weight conversions... and NONE of them came up with what I needed.
Perhaps the computer is feeling the
heat?? ;-0)

Hi Deanna
phew a quick lesson ! OK I will try.
1 oz = 28.349 grams easy drop the .349 so
1oz = 28g
8oz = 226.796g so half a pound of butter should be 226.796 ! luckily they make it up to 250g
1lb=0.454 kg just under half a kg. so 2lb of sugar is abt 1kg actually 0.907
1stone = abt 6.5 kg
Hope this helps.
Do you need any more ? Distance, temp, blah blah

Deana, I am about the same. 1oz. is about 25g. I had to goole it last week to convert a recipe. I think I put in something like 'what is 4oz. in grams'

I am of the old school and never really understood the metric weights, I'm still using lbs & ozs.
Could anyone please give me a short lesson??
