Dont under estimate the temp inside a parked car on a hot day even in the shade its many more degrees hotter in the car. In SA I would have the right to break the car window and call the spca or similar and lay a charge of animal abuse. The owner of the car would have a right to lay a charge of damage to property but dont think that would happen.! - Please people, contrary to what you think, in hot weather, your dogs are much happier at home. |

If i saw a dog in distress in someones car, I'd smash the window if it meant saving a dogs life. Yes, dogs are better left at home in hot weather. |

As I added to a post yesterday about this subject, I would not even contemplate taking my dog in this heat. My own insides feel as if they are boiling, never mind a dogs. The police chief for the county (next to mine) has been on local radio, but appears to be very ambivulent about the matter. As a dog is a serving officer, I thought he could have had a bit more sympathy, and I don't think it is good enough |

Julia, yes he should have had more sense. I think a lot of people got a shock as to how hot it actually was. |

I would not hesitate to smash the car window & to add insult to injury, lay a charge of animal abuse. In the car park where I work, if the car windows are left a few inches open I have personally opened doors and taken the animals out, given the local food store the vehicle registration to announce their dog is in the hot parked car and then given the owners a tongue lashing on their return. |
