Interesting - Wikipedia says that a Chelsea pensioner is person who is an in-patient at the Royal Hospital, which was set up for former army members by James II but the term "Chelsea pensioner" was used in former times to describe both in-pensioners and out-pensioners. If there wasn't enough room in the hospital, an eligible person could receive relief and live off the premises but - if they lived in - they had to surrender their army pension. |

Got the marriage cert today, it is Martin Lindsay, and Margaret Caroline Bainbridge, Margaret must have been added at a much later date, because up till her wedding she is only Caroline, and she is most definitely mine. Thank you. Sue. |

Chelsea pensioner just means that he was in receipt of a pension from the Army. Some "lived-in" at Chelsea, but most just lived at home. |
