A Very Special Day :)

I've had the most wonderful day :)

Maz, Lynda, David (Uggers) and I met at St Pauls and, after coffe and a natter, ambled along to Postmans Park
to read plaques dedicated to the bravery of people who had given their lives to save others. Absolutely amazed at the bravery of them all and in particular the children, the youngest of which was only 8 years old (:

We then wandered the streets of the most wonderful City in the world stopping to admire the dozens of beautiful churches and the way the new architecture blended with the old for the most part, finding little alleyways that, in one instance, led us to an oasis of calm in the middle of the City proper.

Made our way through Aldgate to Christ Church, Spitalfields which is one of the most imposing churches
in London outside of the City, and which was of special interest to David :)

All the above would have made for a great day out but
we never stopped laughing from the time we met to the time we said goodbye.

Thanks to my special friends for once again helping me to forget my problems and adding another lot of memories to be stored for a rainy day.

Jean x.

I'm so jealous !

Glad you had a fabby day today Jean. and I love London, its history and its buildings & can always be heard saying when travelling into the city for whatever reason (and the kids put their fingers in their ears) " I wonder who lived her or what was that like xxx years ago ? "

I put this up for you once Jean but don't think you ever saw it

Taken from Victorian London by LBW

Grey, grimy London — dearer far to me
Than snowy Alp, or blue Tyrrhenian sea, —
Despite the clangour of thy thronging ways, —
Despite the shadow of thy murky haze, —
'Spite thy bewildering grasp of mighty space,
And the long miles that stretch from place to place, -
'Spite the sly growth of suburb, peopling o'er
Landscape once fair, that shall be so no more, —
'Spite every grievance that's against thee hurled,
There is no second London in the world !

Susan.....thank you so much. I haven't seen that before but it sums up exactly how I feel about the place I was born and still live in :)

Thanks all of you for replying. Hopefully we'll have another London meet in the autumn when we can all get together :)

I'm so glad you all had a wonderful day. I'm jealous but I just imagine the four of you walking around your favourite places and it makes me feel warm inside at the thought of you all together.

:-))) yep, it was a cracker wasn't it?! beautiful weather - mostly not too hot - and we saw some really stunning stuff today. I just wish those churches had been open!

like you said, it's the laughter that makes it really special and we certainly didn't stop all day. I caught sight of quite a few people looking at us and smiling, either cos they knew we are daft, or cos we just all looked like we were having such fun!!

thanks for a lovely day the 3 of you :-))))

That makes a bit more sense of it, Lynda. I found Amelia Kennedy in 1861 at the address given but not in 1871 when the family were supposed to be there unless I'm being dopey:)

I've bookmarked it for a good look later, Lynda. I had a quick look and it's a beautiful memorial park. Sad story of the little 8 y.o. who pulled burning clothes off his sister and died. Some of the people were so young and incredibly brave.

Very pleased for all of you.

Christ Church, Spitalfields - that's near where I had lunch once with Chris H., Viv, Anne W. and Christine C., I think.
