I confess I'm not a frock person, but had to buy one for my daughter's wedding in August.
I'd seen a couple I liked, so when daughter was in town one lunchtime, I tried them on and bought one.
It's a simple style, crossover V neck, A line, highish back, cream satiny material covered in black lace, that is sort of pleated on the zip side.

Just tried it on for my other daughter who's visiting old friends, and noticed it was a bit 'baggy' at the back. took it off and, judging from the darts, the 'back' is the front!!!

Don't like that.
Not saying I've got a small bust, but the back fits me perfectly at the front!

I'm going to have to do a bit of dart readjustment - shorten the 'back' (that's now going to be the front) darts, extend the bust darts and pleat the spare lace a bit further over at the front, that's now going to be the back!! LOL

sounds like you have a similar figure to me Maggie, and I don't do frock really either - mainly cos I can't get the flippin things to fit both ends. the only style that works for me is empire line and they're not easy to find.

I'm sure you will look stunning on the day and do your daughter proud. hope you are going the whole hog and getting a hat to match :-)

I have a fascinator - but it's gold and black (the colours daughter initally wanted me to wear), maybe a bit of spray paint on the gold bits? LOL
May buy/borrow a hat with a veil - to hide my blushes!

One good thing about the dress - no-one else will have one with a V' neck - anyone else wearing the same dress will have the 'V' at the back!

lol Maggie, I sure you will adjust your very original dress and it will look perfect on the day, together with your hi-lighted fascinator........I had a lilac one for son's wedding and a black one for daughter's.....

I dreaded buying wedding outfits for the three childrens' weddings because I had put on weight, and kept gaining, instead of losing, for each wedding.......but I was lucky to get outfits that I felt comfortable in.....

.....so I think that is the answer, as long as you feel special, you will look special.......enjoy your day, I am sure you will look beautiful.....

Lol Maggie.

That sounds rather complicated to alter 2 layers......
I'm sure you'll sort it though and look great.

Sally,
I daren't put on any weight - it only just fits, but the next size up hung off me!

Hi Gwyn,
I'll only be adjusting the bottom layer - the lace is gathered and sideways pleated on the zip side, so I'll just pleat the excess up the back (front that was) and put in a holding stitch or two - it'll be and extra feature!!

As you've gathered, I haven't actually altered it yet - I'm waiting for inspiration (and the nerve!)

LWH.
Ummm, well yes, but it was diagonally on the ''V' bit.
