Friend at schools hubby is grounded for 7 days, as hes unwell & come into contact with a confirmed case.

It was quite funny when we all stepped back a foot when she told us LOL !

(ps so far hes ok)

at least 2 schools in town have it including tiddlers and the case at her school lives up road from us, he is apparently awake today and drinking so hopefully he will bounce back quickly, his poor mum is shattered as to of her others are ill with tonsilitus.

My eldest has bad cold and feels awful better not take her to dr they might say its swine flu lol

I dont want to alarm anyone but the headlines in our local paper today says that SF has been diagnosed in 40 local schools in the county.

That is one heck of a lot of schools, even if there arent that many children ill at present with SF.

I guess most Drs. will have read the Pandemic Booklet, issued over a year ago by the Dept. of Health regarding the outbreak of a Pandemic (in that case it was Bird Flu). Quite frightening reading actually. "They" did say a pandemic was coming - and "they" were right.

I suggest anyone with a kiddie who is off colour is taken to the Quacks just in case - just like Muffy did. Let the Drs decide if it is, or isnt SF.

It's strange, Fiona.... I haven't been told to avoid anywhere, not even by the haemotologist on Friday, and I am one of those with a *serious underlying health problem* lol... SF wasn't even mentioned... I was just advised to continue taking natural hygiene precautions... which for me now means trying to avoid anyone who is clearly unwell, children with chickenpox, and making sure I scrub my hands regularly! And I have a depressed immune system, even though it is getting a little bit better!

My son is off school today with tummy ache and nausea, I think the good old bugs are doing the rounds again & I hope my daughter doesnt come down with it as there is a school trip tomorrow :o((

Hope your daughter feels better soon Muffy, sometimes these bugs can upset the tummy for days on end sometimes often leading to reduced appitite. :o((

One good tip I was given, its not as good as rehydration salts but a good alternitive and a pick me up for mild cases or when kids wont drink the salts. Try Locozade sport, its a still isotonic sports drink which is brillant if kids feel ill and helps rehydrate by putting back some salts and sugars.
Put it in the fridge & just pour out some at a time if she is unlikely to drink a full bottle at once.

Its reccomended by ther premier league so it must be good LOL !

My doc thought I had gone to him for swine flu, last week... it was a follow up appointment for blood pressure, which he had requested, lol..... poor man almost had me mee-mahed into hospital!!

You are right to take her if she is poorly, Muffy... my gp is so concerned, as he knows that I was fobbed off for a long time with comments about my age and weight being what they were because of my life stage..... in otherwords, he wasn't thinking outside the box either, and concentrating only on one thing!! Only a temper tantrum from me got me the tests which led to discovering my illness...... so you keep following your instincts hun.... not saying that your little daughter has anything serious, but these things do need checking... and kids don't go off their food for a week for nowt...

I think that doctors all over now have a bee in their bonnets with the swine flu.

Yesterday, my David went to the walk in clinic as he had a temp and a sore throat. He has tonsillitis but that did not stop the doctor from bombarding him with questions of where he had been and if he had had contact with anyone has recently been out of the country.

Not that this is any consolation but my sister and her two daughters are both down with the swine flu, she told me that it hits you like a ton of bricks with no forewarning. My youngest nephew is at risk because he is asthmatic as is our Mom who is a diabetic with a heart condition.

Maybe it's just the heat getting to your little one, hope she gets her appetite back soon.

The attitude just got my back up. Almost like........don't be so silly woman they aren't the symptoms of swine flu go away lol...DOH......I didn't bring her in for swine flu........lol.

They must be worked into the ground at the mo though I can see it from that point of view........still irritated though lol xx

Not making excuses for your GP hun, there is no excuse for poor bedside manner, but with swine flu being present at the school, could it be that your GP is a little overrun and stressed at the moment? They themselves are dealing daily with swine flu at the moment, or people coming in or phoning thinking they might have it.

They have swine flu at my grandsons school,two teachers have it
They are not closing at all,just sent a letter saying to get in touch with GP if your child shows symptons

I would've got her checked out.......swine flu or not.....that's the thing.

My concern is that doctors seem so dead set on Swine flu they're not thinking outside of the box and looking at other possible causes of illnesses.......I reckon if i'd pushed and was so inclined I could've got her a prescription for tamiflu !!!!!

As it was........Doctor eventually said daughter has a *stomach virus* ....I'd kind of figured that out for myself !!!!!!

Suggested doing what I was doing already.......bland diet, plenty of fluids.......tbh I went for peace of mind and for her to have her stomach checked out in case they found something I couldn' t see.

I'd never take chances .....but despite that I'm a very infrequent visitor.

Just found doctor's attitude really odd.

Whatever it is, if you felt the need to see a doctor, you did the right thing.
It has been stated that swine flu seems to be more dangerous to people who have other health problems as well - so with others at her school off with it - you definitely need to see a doctor in case there are complications with whatever your daughter has.

Hope I'm not worrying you by being over-dramatic about it - but the old saying is true - better to be safe than sorry! and every doctor knows that.
