lol well not quite, but the oak cabinet had glass leaded panels and someone had put a rose transfer in the middle... which i noticed first and then realised what a nice cabinet it was.

Came away with that, two boxes of interesting books, a watercolour and an etching of Bloomsbury Square lol. Good day!

Rose!!!! you are gonna have to be strapped down on Auction Day love - lol lol

How old is the cabinet would you say? I love old oak - it's usually got such a nice patina.

lol Jac, I am! ( my mum was the same, so is my brother lol, though he generally goes for electrical stuff) but not going next week as up in Liverpool. Just as well because next week is the 'Fine Arts' auction, lol. Today's (each Tuesday) is all mixed, bit of everything.

Would say the cabinet was 1930s so not 'antique' but good quality and fits in well with the style of house, much better than getting a new one made of chipboard and veneer :) There are generally some really nice things there, some need a bit of restoration, like a balloon back chair that needed re-upholstering, only £2 !

I bought the etching because no one else wanted it lol, I did the same a few weeks back with two old prints 'Cries of London' ...only £2 though :)

I love a good rummage Rose - it's amazing what you can pick up. Some of the etchings and prints are very very nice - especially if you can find a nice frame (some of the old ones can be a bit naff, can't they?)

I wouldnt mind having a go at reupholstery - I know you can do it at Night School, but it's the lugging the item of furniture back and forth that puts me off! My aunty has taken a course and she has done some lovely things - high back chairs, re-caning on the seat of a lovely little bedroom chair she has given to me - and a cute little early victorian footstool I bought for a fiver - with original horse hair stuffing - she recovered it for me to match my colour scheme. I love it.

Not a bad morning's work then Rose? and reasonable too - so no guilty feelings - lol

Keep up the good work.
