GR's New Germinating Forest

Has anyone else experienced problems searching for relatives since GR introduced their forest/sapling format some months ago?

Since the change I can only search on my family tree for people by using surname, christian name and date of birth. Before they changed the format I could search by names individually, and did not need to enter the birth year.

The technical dept has offered solutions, which I have tried, but to no avail ie; explorer version, macromedia, disabled pop up blocker, cached pages deleted, form data deleted, security settings lowered and more, but to no avail.

My system is the same now as it was before they made this change.

If anyone has a solution I would love to hear from you.

Regards
Ingrid

I think it must be you because I just searched somebody else's tree and just used surname and it worked.

No, not noticed any problems searching names, You must at least enter a surname, the others are optional. If you are leaving either the forename or year of birth blank, make sure it is blank, by highlighting it and pressing delete. If you have managed to put a space there it won't work. It doesn't seem to matter whether you use upper or lower case or a mix of the two.

The technical remedies you mentioned are the normal things to check through when you have problems opening tree displays, but I can't really see how they affect the search options. However, if the page on screen isn't current i.e.is a previously cached one, the search may not work, so pressing F5 to refresh the display may do the trick.

I would also add, if you open you own tree, then use the options near the top to search for matches in other trees, the results are not displayed on that page, but on the next previous GR page or tab that is open. This can be a bit confusing if you don't realize how it works.
