Hello All,
I'm of to the citizens advice tomorro to have this and others things sorted out. Just wondering what others think about this.
I work 10 hrs a week school term. This coming summer break we have to work 30 hrs but get paid for the whole 6 weeks. If we dont work those 30hrs we dont get paid for the whole 6 weeks. But the company takes £4.00 a week out of our wages to cover this. My argument is if we have already worked it and they have taken the money of us why cant they pay us during the 6 weeks.

update thurs
Well we went to the CAB and they are going to write to the head office for a explaination of how the monies are calculated. Even the SSP varies from week to week.
Also was told to apply for either ESA (like the old income support) or pension credit. Rang pension credit tonight and they are doing a home visit as hubby cant give them the details over the phone and they are not allowed to speak to me as it is in his name. Once they have home visited then they will be able to have contact with me.
Be interesting what head office has to say seeings that I asked our area superviser about a mth ago for a written explaination. and got nothing.

Anne, when I was working as a school dinner lady, our money was divided out into 52 weekly amounts, altho we had the school holidays off. Maybe that's what they do with your money but yours includes going in for 30 hrs of the hols, so if you don't go in, they take that money off.

Hi Liz,
I don't know its just so confusing for me and we dont get any help from the company either about explainations.
Hubby had stroke in March and since then his monies have been all over the place (with same company). When I emailed CAB they said we had a difficult case and we have to go in tomorrow. We see what tomorrow brings.

I hope CAB help you get all the money problems sorted Anne, it isn't right that they mess you around when your husband has been ill - stress isn't condusive to getting well again quickly.
Hope things get better for you soon - let us know how you get on.

Jean (Monmouth) Report 8 Jul 2009 19:35

I used to work in an approved girls school, four nights on four nights off. This was a new thing when I started, and the council thought they would be able to lay us off during the school holidays and not pay us. There were four staff members doing this shift and we flatly refused to submit to this, and as it would have been difficult to replace us with experienced people at short notice we won, and continued to work with the ones who were left at school when the others had gone home and with new detainees when they arrived.

I assume that you are not employed by the Council Anne but by a contractor? I hope the CAB can give you some good advice as it certainly sounds complicated.
