I have been sent over a lot of information by a kind lady about my family tree.All eager to see what it is.Tried to open it and it says,This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create a association in the set associations control panel? Can anyone help as i have not got a clue. Annie |

Hi - I know the feeling. I couldn't open GEDCOM. The answer will depend on which WINDOWS you are on: Mine's XP.- I guess yours is not XP, as my error message is different. If you visit MS WINDOWS FILE ASSOCIATIONS - MS should suggest a programme from the web to download, for file extensions. |

What type of file is it you are trying to open, tell me the file extention type, it's the 3 letters after the dot. |

Hi Annie, It's a pain, isn't it? I know Vista is different . If it's a Family Tree you have been sent-chances are it is a GEDCOM File. Try the www for GEDCOM. Watch out though, Most companies have 2 versions, One is FREE - The other Professional one you have to pay for. The other thing you could do is to ask your kind lady what type of file it is, just to be sure. It's all too much for us Grannies isn't it!? |
