Persephone, I too like Hobart and I think that I could cheerfully live there. It is the same with Albany on the South Coast of WA. There is just something welcoming about the two places.

Yes Sue - have been to Ross - had dinner at the Manor - and what a feed it was, the place was packed. Went to the bakery/Scottish ancestry place and the woman there was most helpful.. but I have to go back.
A lot of the Tassie countryside is like seeing different parts of NZ one after the other with a bit of Scotland thrown in.
We want to do the Spirit of Tassie boat across - the second time we went over to Tasmania we flew into Launie and went to Devonport and our hotel window faced the Port and we watched the boat leave at night and it was fascinating how it went towards the land and then could just turn around and head out to sea again.

My family were worried we would disappear and live over there - but the eldest Grand daughter is 14 now so they have a built in baby -sitter and we no longer need to be called upon. So one day we just might and then they can come over and visit. It's a long day that first day as we gain a couple of hours - we play happily on the Trams in Melbourne between flights.

I keep disappearing out to water my plants. The weather is beautiful at the moment, but is expected to rise to 41 in Sydney - that means at least 42 here, so I am getting out while I can.

I like Wire in the Blood too - also Midsomer Murders and particularly The Last Detective - "Dangerous" is my favourite detective.

Diane - if you are looking in - hope things are OK with you. Take good care of yourself and let us know when you can how you are.

Alison - hope you are feeling OK. Keep us informed of everything, won't you?

Sue - I think you will get your 36 degrees - and more - if the current rise in temperature is any indication. At 10:30, it was 33 here, and the indoor temp had risen from 22 to 25 in half an hour - so it won't be very long before I will hit that aircon switch! However, there is cloud cover coming over, so it might save the day yet!

Peter Davidson - is so good - and I am sorry that we only ever got a short run of Dangerous Davies here.

John Nettle - I even think he is good narrating the Airline program - he has such a nice voice.

We are also fans of the Frost series - played by David Jason. OH has all the books (there we go books again) and was quite upset when the authro R D Wingfield died - but his family have recently published his last works so he is on the look out for a paperback the same size as the others. We can get it in Trade paper back size - but it wouldn't look as neat.

Our weather - raining intermittently - not as warm as yesterday. And as I said on the other thread the ice-bergs are on their way from Antartica. Several of them - we got one huge one in 2006 and they immediately made it into a tourist attraction and a very woolley sheep was helicoptered out and we had shearing on ice. I suppose it made a change from Whale watching.

It put up a valiant effort to stay put but the power of a large vehicle and a strap with a breaking strain of 7 tonnes did the trick, but only after dragging said vehicle back towards the house several times.

Seems like you've had a successful day, Allan. Lucky you didn't have the heat we've had for pulling the stump out. We are still feeling it, but the forecast is for a drop down to 21c tomorrow. What a difference that'll be!

Thankfully, the fire fighters think they will have the fires under control by tomorrow morning. That's good news too.

We will miss your input, Barbara. However, we do hop around other threads, and hopefully, will talk to you there.

I have made three attemps at adding to the Animal thread - but each time, I'm sure Allan sees me coming and makes sure that it is up to "X" at the time when I look in!

Good morning Allan. Yes, the temperature has halved! A pleasant, cool morning so far - although the forecast included rain - we have yet to see that!

I have been monitoring the news of bushfires in the Rylstone area where Gail (GranofOz) is. One cottage has been destroyed, so I hope Gail and her home and family are OK. She has probably lost power by now, so can't let us know.

Barbra - I can only say one thing. I can't see how you feel my friend Linda is bragging or showing off. We have supported Linda through a really difficult time. She is still vulnerable and she has been deeply hurt. If you don't like Linda why not just leave it at that and ignore her or whoever else you had no time for. You could still have joined in the fun. That's all I will say on the subject.

The weather has turned very cool overnight and hopefully the fire-fighters will be able to gain some headway with the bushfires that are causing so much destruction.

Alison - hope you are ok and feeling much better.

I'd hate to be in a situation like that. I'll stick with my urban living.

A couple of years ago I was doing some work at Boddington and had to travel through a small townsite called Dwellingup which had a devastating fire through there a few years ago. The place is surrounded by State Forest.

Another fire, less destuctive, came close to Dwellingup 2 - 3 years ago and suddenly there were plenty of cheap properties up for sale, particularly those adjacent to the forest!

Normally I do pick up books at these venues but it is strange that on Saturday there were hardly any books to be seen

Hi, Allan. We have a large bush area behind us but fortunately we haven't had too many problems. The only thing I can see happening is that lately we've had trail-bike riders up there and we're all hoping that a spark from the exhausts don't cause any trouble.

Thanks for letting us know you have heard from Diane. I did ask on her thread and got one answer that she hadn't been feeling well earlier, but nothing else. Hope she is OK and will be back joining us again soon.

Tec is also conspicuous by his absence! Hope he and his duchess are both OK and that he too, will be back with us shortly. My goodness, Sue, it looks like you might have to call the roll each morning!

Sue, thanks for the updates on the various personalities who visit here.

OH and myself had a shock when we went to cost pavers etc for laying paths in our rvamped garden, so we have decided to see what is going for sale at thes venues that we could utilise.

We will be putting in a Gazebo but that will have artificial turf as flooring.

Council stupidity...it allows 3*3m garden sheds to be erected without a Building Permit but the Gazebo, with a floor area of just over 7 sq. mts has to have one. Cost of Gazebo $449.00 from B*nnings. Cost of Building Permit $125.00 plus whatever the Water Corporation charge for stamping the plans to say the structure is not over the Sewer.

I would put it up without a permit, but unfortunately our new next door neighbour just happens to work in the Building Dept of the Council!
