True, we have Christmas to sort out first

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 24 Oct 2014 22:03

Perhaps it will make a nice Spring holiday - which will seem like an eternity to Eve :-D

She keeps telling us she wants to go back, we will have to make it happen I suppose

Tecwyn Report 24 Oct 2014 21:59

Eve obviously hoped that she was going to Centre Parcs again - but the local baths is better than nothing I suppose :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 24 Oct 2014 21:49

Eve has phoned us twice today. Her mum made a remark at breakfast about how it was her last day at school today and she had a weeks holiday next week, but we were coming to look after her. She told us that she had to get her swimming costume and goggles ready. She must have thought that we were taking her to Centre Parcs again :-D

I told her we would take her to the local swimming pool.

She is always right - no one would dare say otherwise :-D

Hello.............. :-)

You have all been busy.

I actually enjoy cleaning ovens :-D it's such a challenge, giving a deep sense of satisfaction when it's all shiny and sparkling.
There is a chap round here who runs an oven cleaning service.

I have also been busy, but don't seem to have much to show for it.
My supermarket delivery arrived this afternoon, so I put that all away, then popped to the village shop. Such excitement .

My brother is visiting tomorrow, so I have lined up a few jobs outside for him to do.
He enjoys doing them - my SIL said.

OH is building the fence outside, he has moved a ton of gravel and is now hammering the boards onto the frame which he built on Wednesday. I have done my normal Friday cleaning, but he usually does the hoovering. As he is working so hard, I did it inste as, but now my knee is really aching :-(

I think sitting with my legs up might be in order for the rest of the afternoon

Here tenants put down a deposit and if the place is not as clean as it was when they move in, money is deducted for professional cleaning.
The flats are supposed to have been professionally cleaned before they moved in, but some have been terrible. My children got wise and took photos of any bad things as soon as they moved in. They sent these to the agents so they could not be charged when they moved out. As we always helped them move, the flats were invariably cleaner when they left than when they arrived

You haven't met one of my tenants who bangs the stock pots for boil ups on the top of the stove and we are forever replacing elements so we got her a stove with solid elements. Her oven has a glass door and I would defy anyone to be able to see in it. The walls of the oven are thick with gunk as well. I would love it if our tenants cleaned their ovens before they left.

I sprayed this one today and there is still more to come off, but yes I will be putting a liner on the bottom under the element, but would like to get that a bit cleaner first.

Yesterday I got all the cobwebs down from back and front doors including around the lights. I will take down the screw on ball bowl coverings of the lights and wash them. Today I also cleaned the outside of the front and back doors.

I am not going to go near all the weeds that are growing from the council property behind the place. We will mow the lawns and mow the weeds in them as well... weeds love NZ weather.

Persie you should have an oven liner and buy them for your rentals as well

http://www.lakeland.co.uk/3318/Magic-Oven-Liner?intcmp=INTSRCH:oven%20liner

I know this is an English shop, but you must be able to get in down under. It is the best £10 I ever spent. You just cut it to the size you need and put it in the bottom of the oven. It lasts for years. You just wash it in the sink. I bused to buy them for the children when they were renting because the ovens had to be cleaned before they left and it was always me who ended up with the job

In fact I just put Oven liner into Ebay and it came up with lots of them, all cheaper

There is a wood burner here at Huntly, but the plumber has said not to use it and we hope to be gone from here before winter.

OH takes the leaves out of a couple of rentals and we got the painters to water blast one where the grass was growing. We also cut back the trees to reduce leaves getting in the gutters. We tried some sort of guard when we were in Grey Lynn but it did not work efficiently. :-(

Huia Report 24 Oct 2014 01:33

Persie, I have a wood burner, but I have no intention of getting a heat pump. It will cost more for electricity. I will just have to put on more layers of clothing (think Michelin man) or go to bed if I am cold. Perhaps it wont apply out here in the country part of Auckland though. But there will be a few oldies like me who will suffer, financially or otherwise.

As for gutter guards, they would be no use to me, as dust from the road would still get in, and then the grass seeds. From time to time I have the grass growing in the gutters. The man from the village hates having to get his mower up on the roof to mow the gutters, but it has to be done. :-0

Goodnight everyone up top

enjoy your day Sue I am off to clean this stove here, so far I have only used the ceramic top but if the outside of the oven is anything to go by the interior may not be that clean. The oven door handles are greasy both ends.. I hate stove cleaning, mine was under the bench so no outsides except the front and being stainless steel was an easy wipe down... and I kept my oven clean.

We both get stuck in at the rentals when they change tenants, some of them really do need a pneumatic drill to get all the built up mess on the bottom off.
