Hi Tec and Linda

Looking on the internet, it sounds as though the UK was badly hit with the remains of the hurricane .......... 3 people killed and 3 injured :-(

Good to hear that you are all OK

Of course Persie is posh :-)

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 21 Oct 2014 21:26

Persie - you must be very posh to have your very own landscape gardener :-D

I would have the boy from the village to do jobs in my garden if Linda hadn't frightened him off :-(

Where sheep may safely graze - that's a joke, they're always being chased and harassed by farmers.

We had exactly the same problem as you at our last house with a small area of grass between the two drives. It was my grass, but my neighbours had three cars, and in order to get the third car on their drive they had to drive over my grass area. In winter it turned into a quagmire.
I gave up in the end and paved it. :-0

You just haven't trained them well enough Persie. I can just imagine them with their tiny sweeping brushes :-D

Back to Auckland, this morning at least it is sunny... I am starting to feel the need not to go but know that we still have a few musts to get done up there. It has been so peaceful here the last couple of days. We have churned up the neighbours bit of berm with the horse truck but nothing has been said, it is council property and we will do something about it.

At our house in Auckland we put in new grass on the fence side of the foot path, so the council did well from us there.

We have a landscape gardener who only ever used weed matting once he finds the soil does not breathe underneath (at least I think that is what he said) he has put piles of dark bark mulch in our garden and the only thing that seems to disturb it is the birds as they like to have baths in the warmth of it. Means having to regularly sweep the drive, they don't seem to like to do housework after they have made a mess.

No, I prefer to admire them from afar

Tecwyn Report 21 Oct 2014 21:14

Have you ever been in an enclosed space full of sheep - it stinks :-0

and when they're shearing it's even worse :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Oct 2014 21:10

I don't think so, but they may just never have been offered it before

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 21 Oct 2014 21:03

Now that wouldn't be nice Linda :-D cannibalistic.

Vegetable possibly,

Do sheep drink hot soup?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Oct 2014 21:00

Would you give then mutton soup?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 21 Oct 2014 20:54

I'm just glad that I'm not a sheep up on the mountain huddling under a stone wall. If I had a bigger house I'd go and gather them all up and bring them in for hot soup :-D

The wind arrived in the middle of the night. I woke up at 2am and thought it was thundering, but it was the noise of the wind down the chimney.

There were lots of trees down in the area according to local radio, so I stayed in and finishing the gloss painting in the bedroom.
Will visit the Duchess tomorrow. I phoned again today, and she was a little better, at least up and walking about.

Amanda I think the bad weather has reached you today - hope you have no damage.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Oct 2014 15:58

I am just back from delivering library books. It was very gusty,so having to keep opening the car door and boot was difficult.

We then did a Sylvia and went for afternoon coffee and cake. We went to the garden centre because OH wanted some weed suppressing matting. He is extending the fence at the front of the house to separate us off from the new neighbours. They never put their cars in the garage and their gravel drive, is full of weeds. The old neighbours put their cars away and kept the place tidy. I wanted the fence extending forwards to make a distinction between the two drives. At present there is a grass strip, so OH has dug it up and is replacing it with gravel. Most of the grass was ours, with just a tiny bit belonging to next door, as they can't be bothered to put the cars away, they drive across part of our grass to get on their drive. In the winter they just churn the grass up and it looks awful.

We could have made the fence longer and caused them problems, but being good people, we have stopped it short to make it easier for them. The original concrete edging to the grass will still be there, so when I showed the neighbour the map from the deeds, it is obvious which is ours and when we eventually come to sell, we can show the new owners. Not that we are going anywhere yet,we need to be here so Sue has her permanent English residence :-D

Just popping in to say I hope that everyone is holding on okay in the storm ! It is a bit lively here but at least the sun is shineing . Tec , I hope you haven't been hit to hard and it's good to see you haven't blown away Linda :-)

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Oct 2014 10:08

Well I am still here, although we had a lot of rain overnight. It is very windy outside, but not a massive storm yet. I think the west of the country is bearing the brunt

Tec, I haven't got your email, maybe you could copy it into a GR message if you still want to send it. It is odd that I got half a message yesterday, you would think if it wasn't working that it wouldn't send any at all. I can foresee you talking to the nice Indian ladies again

Oh Dolgellau, but of course, why did I not guess that thingey was a euphemism for gellau ... well not exactly euphemism as gellau is not unpleasant...unless you try to spell it the way it is pronounced. Even Maori is pronounced closely to the spelling of a word, with Welsh they don't half give us a run around on pronunciation.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Oct 2014 23:04

I had better get to bed, as I may not get much sleep once the storm hits,

Enjoy your day

Sylvia,
and Persie,

Goodnight,
