Hello, :-)

It's extremely windy here. I very nearly got blown over this afternoon. :-(

Had a phone call from the home this morning to say that the Duchess had had a fall. No serious damage, but badly shaken.
So I visited again this afternoon.
Her chest is still quite bad, and she has a graze on her chin and upper lip, as well as on her forehead.
It seems that she slipped off the side of the bed, and thinks the grazing came from the carpet.
So all in all she is not a happy lady, and looked very frail today.
I will probably visit again tomorrow.

Coming out of the home, which is in direct line to the seafront, the wind took me. I had Archie on and two crutches, so all I could do was to put the crutches in front of me to lean on, and just stand there trying to keep from tumbling.
There were huge waves crashing over the promenade as I drove past.

Persie, Sounds like the open house was a huge success - it just takes one buyer :-)

Hello Berona - hope that you can enjoy the Spring weather - I would give you my scooter if you lived a bit closer, then you could tear off to the shops, or wherever :-D

Good evening thread.

It is a good TV evening tonight. Strictly results shoe, although I already know who gets thrown out by looking on a spoiler thread on Saturday night. Then Antiques Roadshow followed by Downton Abbey. I think I watch more T V on Sunday night than I do in the rest of the week

The open house sounds positive Persie, so hopefully it will sell for a good price.

I was just watching a grey squirrel in the garden. They are cute, but are real pests as they have seen off the native red squirrels and they strip the bark from young native trees, killing them. They tell us to think of them as tree rats, but that doesn't work because they look cute.

Aussie has an amazing collection of birds, we love your little marsupials as well and the platypus is a fascinating little bloke. And I think the blue fairy wrens are lovely and have given a friend all sorts of items with them on etc.

Robins.. we have Black Robins.. they nearly became extinct but like the kokako and kakapo we are increasing their numbers by having sanctuaries.

I should imagine you would not get our Royal Gala in Tassie since it is the Apple Island. There was a time there when Aussie would not take our apples and caused major upsets over here.

Our open home on Saturday went well even with the pouring rain, one chap was on a return visit having done one by appointment during the week. He said to the agent it was great that it was raining as that is a good way to check things on a second visit and it apparently passed the umbrella test.

Today was sunny as and even more people went through the place and we went to an open home for a nosey that was along the road, around the corner, across the main street and along another street.. a short walk. A really lovely house.

Hello everyone. Lovely day here to-day. The collection of large birds around here are Crimson Rosellas, White Cockatoos, Galahs, Lorikeets and of course, our share of doves, butcher birds, sparrows, starlings and Willy Wagtails, not to mention the Noisy Miners.
The White Cockatoos usually go for a morning flight around here and screetch as they go. If made a pet of, both they and the Galahs can be taught to talk but I don't know anyone who keeps them - they are free, and protected by local law.

goodnight Tec xx

Enjoy your day, Sue xx

Tecwyn Report 18 Oct 2014 23:42

it think it rather meant I was silly as there was an Aussie expression "silly galah"

Was always introduced as "Our mate the Pommie Galah" :-D

I really am going to bed now - Goodnight

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 18 Oct 2014 23:42

It is an affectionate term if you call someone a silly galah :-)

Goodnight Tec <3

I must be off too and get started with my day. Enjoy the rest of your day Sylvia <3

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:37

that means you talked a lot, doesn't it :-D

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:37

oh ..... re the men

an American coast guard helicopter is apparently keeping close to hand in case the men need to be rescued ...... they'll winch them off the ship.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 18 Oct 2014 23:37

Sylvia,

I was known as a Pommie Galah by my Aussie "friends" :-D Goodnight

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:35

That's the problem ................. we have such a huge coast, and much of it is uninhabited!

night night Tec

sleep tight xx

Tecwyn Report 18 Oct 2014 23:33

No world class rescue system can be relied on if help is 24 hrs away :-(
We are fortunate on this small island that such help is never too far away, unlike your huge coastline.
My thoughts are with the men on that ship.

I don't know if we have Marvel Comics here Sue.

Well I am off to bed now,
Enjoy your day Sue, and what's left of yours Sylvia,

Goodnight,
Tec
:-)

Yes Sylvia - they are lovely little birds. They hop around the garden but I can never get a decent photo as they fly away whenever I get too close. I should try a zoom lens.

I love the galahs - the grey and pink looks good. They're not as noisy as the black cockatoos nor as destructive :-|

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:32

I can't see a Simnel cake recipe with saffron ......... but there is a Cornish Saffron Cake, and an English Christmas Saffron bread

perhaps that is what I am getting mixed up about?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:26

Sue

are those the little fairy wren that holds its tail straight up??

I love those :-)

but my favourite Aussie bird, despite its noise, is the Galah .............. I love that pink and grey colouring

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 18 Oct 2014 23:25

They would have cost much more than they cost.....I did think about it :-D

Aiden collects Marvel Comic character cards. They have become the 'big thing' with young boys.

Sylvia - I'm not sure about saffron in Simnel cakes.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:24

we have robins here :-)

American robins, which are really thrushes ............. in fact they are the largest thrushes in NA

They are attractive ................ but I miss the English robin :-)

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 18 Oct 2014 23:23

I think saffron is used in simnel cake Sylvia.

Saffron is mentioned in the Bible, but I can't remember where or in what context

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Oct 2014 23:23

Yes, we are all very worried about that ship.

No-one knows what happened, or how the captain was injured .......... just that the engine is not working, and the power was list during a storm over Thursday night.

If it does come aground, then we could have another Exxon Valdez situation ......... less oil, but a different kind that could cause even more trouble.

Did you know that the oil from the Exxon Valdez has still not completely cleared where it spilled?

You can apparently still turn over rocks and find thick goo underneath

The Federal government has assured us that there will be no problem if up to 50 tankers a day are allowed to sail from ports on the BC coast .............. they have a "world-class rescue situation" organised

well, the locals are certainly being proved right ................ no "world class", the nearest tug over 24 hours away, etc etc

The "on the ground" crew if it does go aground, will be the local Haida, in their small boats.

keep your fingers crossed!
