I hope so, but this time last year she had two lots of anti-biotics, one course after the other, but they didn't work, which is why she ended up in hospital.
Maybe this time they have caught it in time.
When she gets ill her blood sugar levels become very erratic - I knew how to handle that, but they are not allowed to adjust insulin levels at the home without a doctors authorisation.

Hopefully the antibiotics will be kicking in now, it usually takes twenty four hours

Sorry Linda, I thought your test was today. Hope you don't pass out from starvation before your next meal :-D ....no cheating.

I phoned the home, they said the Duchess was about the same - no worse, but had a good night.

How is the Duchess today Tec?

Hello you two

My blood test isn't until the morning Tec. OH is back and is teasing me by making coffee and eating fruit, all I can have is water

Tecwyn Report 16 Oct 2014 21:08

I hope they left you some blood Linda :-) and you didn't get too hungry.
Did OH get wet on his ramble? We had sunshine and very heavy showers.

We get lots of rambling groups passing through the village. Sometimes they all arrive in cars, and park them, or they all arrive on the train and set off into the hills for the day.
Most of them seem to be of retirement age.

Persie it sounds very nice where you are. I enjoy the peace and quiet here. Once the tourists have departed it is very quiet.
I can stand in the garden at night and hear the oyster catchers on the beach.
Couldn't live in a town or city anymore, having to cope with the traffic, and the hustle and bustle of city life.
I also hope that your house does well at auction, and you can find exactly what you want.
Are you hoping to buy in the area you are renting in?

It seems to be mostly retirees that belong to these walking groups here. My friends parents when they retired moved to the South Island to Motueka and he goes on the walks but she does not go. And both my cousins brother and sister and spouses moved out of Auckland to a place up north called Bland Bay but they had that land when they were younger and had caravans and then baches and now lovely homes there.

Seems that a lot either move out of Auckland or leave NZ and go to Oz when they retire. The traffic situation in Auckland is horrendous, there are certain times of the day when the motor way is more like one long car park.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 16 Oct 2014 13:53

I arranged the blood test for early morning, so I can have breakfast as soon as I get home.

OH's rambling group walks mid week so they are mainly all retired. They normally start walking at ten o'clock and finish mid afternoon. They always finish at a tea room. There is another group who walk on Saturdays, they are usually younger people who are still working and they walk further

There has been a bit of controversy here re fasting before blood tests for cholesterol etc and the last time I had it done, I was not to fast. I don't mind not eating up until about midday but after that I would be hungry.

We have a lake we can walk around here so that will be something that we will do. My cousin's husband was telling me how he started out with a walking group and then they walked further and further and now it is an all out hike over hills, through bush and rough terrain. He is ready for bed as soon as he gets back. I don't think any of there outings include trips to the pub or else his brother-in-law (another cousin of mine) would be wanting to go as well.. and his past time is going fishing.

I am glad that you are pleased with your rented house Persie. I hope that your house sells for a good price at the auction, then you can take your time finding just the right spot to buy

I think forgetting where tools are is a man thing. My OH is forever looking for the tool he had in his hand only thirty seconds ago.

He has gone out rambling today, but it is different from normal. They aren't starting their walk until just before lunch. They are going to walk through the afternoon then finish at a pub where they will have dinner at about 6pm. He has already gone out, so I am on my own I have been catching up with some of the cinema admin which I meant to do yesterday

I need to eat before 6pm because I am only allowed water after that. I am having a fasting blood test at 8.20am tomorrow morning. That will teach me to ask for a cholesterol test :-(

And it is so quiet, no traffic going up and down the street which is a little cul de sac only noisy day is Tues morning when the bins are collected and if you are outside you can hear the trains going up and down the main trunk line... but do not hear them when you are inside.

I can't quite understand why young girls wear either shorts or short skorts and singlet type tops, at night when it is cold as.. I saw several lots of young lasses at the autobahn where we stopped off the other night and I had on pants that came just past my knee and I had a jacket on over my top.. they are all bare armed and bare legged and covered in goose bumps.

I really miss my shelter shed where I hung my washing to dry, however can't complain this clothes line does catch the breeze and has the sun on for hours on a fine day.

A plus is I look out from the kitchen window and see trees. There are three houses up behind us but to the right so they can't see in. I get the tuis on the kowhai and flax.. though I am not sure who had the silly idea to either grow a kowhai so some of its branches go over the clothes line.. or equally silly put the clothes line near the established kowhai. It is all flowers at the moment. About 4.30pm in the afternoon a family of little finches come and peck around the back lawn and this morning there were some bigger finches out there.

I will be back in Auckland tomorrow to give the place a going over before the open home weekend. Himself was up there on his own today doing a bit of this and that. He has lost the plot at the moment and is even more forgetful than he is normally. I have to reconstruct his list of things to do but then he loses things when I am not there.. well he loses them when I am there as well but I know where he has left them.

Goodness what a well dressed family Sylvia.

My father always wore a suit to work complete with the regulation shirt, tie and brylcreemed hair. He worked for an insurance company,so was often out and about,s he had some sort of raincoat and a trilby hat.

He was retired for a very long time before he died, so he gave up the suits for a pair of trousers, shirt and cardigan, but always put a tie on to go out.He stuck with the brylcreem almost to the end which was a shame because he had nice silvery grey hair once it was washed out

Mum never worked after she got married. I do remember she had a two piece suit with a little hat at one stage which she wore for best, but she mainly wore skirts and blouses, or jumpers. She took to wearing elasticated trousers as it kept her back warm.

My mother was always well-dressed ................

I have some wonderful photos of her in the 1920s and 1930s .............. very much up-to-the-minute!

she was even more well-dressed after she started working in the high-class Ladies Dress Shop in 1945 :-)

she also wore a fox fur round her neck, over a 2 piece costume (as they used to be called)

she never went out without a hat, a handbag, and gloves

I have a photo of her at my brother's wedding in 1952 .................. costume, fox fur, and hat.

And Dad is next to her in his 3 piece suit, with his gold watch chain across his chest :-)

I think my "responsible" outfit tomorrow will be .........................

my Goretex rainproof jacket :-(

Possibly with a paperboy-style hat with a brim that will stop the hood from falling over my face to my chin :-)

Thank you for your good wishes .........

.................. he's just got to have another colonoscopy check-up

He had one in March, the doctor wanted him back in 3 months .............

.............. then the June appointment was changed to September, which was then moved to tomorrow

we're assuming that the surgeon doesn't think there is anything really serious there!

Goodnight Linda, sleep well tonight.

Sue it's so good that Maisie has settled so well into your home. She obviously appreciates the kindness she's been shown.

The new little dog next door is really settling down. It took a week of patience and tact, but she will now accept a biscuit from me, and even allow me to stroke her.
Still barks at other men she meets on her walks though.

I got her to take a biscuit from me by not looking directly at her, but holding a biscuit in her direction. She slowly crept forward, and yesterday got up enough courage to take it from me.

She ran for her life when my brother appeared yesterday.
