Strange that we lose height - I've lost about two inches. I was 5-11ins, now I'm 5-9ins.

On that basis, in the unlikely even that I live to be 100, I'll be about 3ft tall :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Oct 2014 21:36

Hmm, when I was eighteen I was tall and slender. I have lost some height and slender, I am not :-( :-( :-(

Your OH is right, you shouldn't put strain on that knee, just occasional exercise. Shopping is a no no.

I do eat enough, never been a big eater. Will probably put more weight on in the winter when I won't be so active, and will eat more filling dinners made in my slow cooker.
Though it is a good excuse to buy new clothes. My trousers are too big, so I have to pull my belt right round to the last hole, as my waist is what it was when I was eighteen - never thought I'd get back there again :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Oct 2014 21:14

Of course I wouldn't milk it :-D

I am actually having more trouble in getting OH to let me do anything

You can eat what you want Tec as you need to put weight on

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 Oct 2014 21:05

Linda - I'm sure that you wouldn't milk the situation for all it's worth - would you? :-D

As for diet - I hadn't taken sugar in tea or coffee for 40 years, but the coffee in hospital was so dire, the only way I could drink it was to have sugar in it.
Sadly, I have continued the habit since I came home.
I've also taken to buying cakes to have with my coffee.

Now that I'm on my own I don't seem to cook the dinners that I did when the Duchess was here.
It is more difficult cooking for one somehow.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Oct 2014 20:51

That is a good idea Sylvia, or I could sit with my knee up and demand OH does everything for me :-D

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Oct 2014 20:48

Linda ...............

you might find that a cane will give you some support while your knee gets better

Try to get an aluminum one, that can be easily adjusted to the correct height, and use it on the opposite side to the bad knee.

I was surprised at how much more confident I felt when I tried it when I did something similar to you 3 or 4 years (or what sounds like very similar :-) )

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Oct 2014 20:38

We need to get you fed up Tec. You are to go round the supermarket picking up all the food with the high fat and sugar warnings on it :-D

I can understand you not wanting to use just one crutch outside. At home you are sure about all the surfaces and the places to hold onto. I felt strangely vulnerable walking across the open car park

My knee is much better in the house and I haven't been out since we came home from holiday six days ago. I have stopped taking the pain killers, co codamol, as they have unwanted side effects. I am still taking the anti inflammatory tablets as the bad knee is still larger than the other one

Thank you for the good wishes :-)

It is a miserable day here, and we are under a rain warning :-(

good to try your knee, Linda ................. but don't push it!

they should make lighter -weight Archies :-)

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you both Sylvia - enjoy the turkey.

Thankyou Jax for news of Persie. Nice house.

Many years ago friends of mine bought a wooden bungalow North of Sydney . That had a corrugated tin or asbestos roof, can't remember which.
The place was a wreck when they bought it, with vegetation coming up through the floorboards :-D but they completely transformed it within three years.

Tecwyn Report 13 Oct 2014 17:55

It's still very early days with your knee, but I can understand you wanting to see what you could or could not do.
Try not to push things too quickly though.

I experiment with "Archie" . Discovered I can get around a small supermarket by placing my crutches in the trolley, and using it for support.
It is hard work and very tiring.
Archie is quite heavy in relation to my body weight. I am still only 8stone 9 pounds.
I can walk about indoors using only one crutch, but haven't the confidence to try this outside yet.
Though I did walk down a long corridor at the artificial limb centre the other day with just the one crutch - mainly to show off :-D

Very dull and overcast here today. I have finished stripping the walls in the bedroom now that the wardrobes have been moved.
My next venture is to prepare paintwork for re-painting, but as my brother and SIL are visiting tomorrow, and I have to attend a review meeting at the home on Wednesday I can't get back to the bedroom till later this week.

Apparently, the weather is supposed to be very good at the weekend, so I expect I will want to be in the garden. Still have the rest of the hedge to reduce in size, and I have lots of bulbs to plant in tubs and pots.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Oct 2014 17:21

I ventured out for the first time today. I drove to the supermarket, but I must say that I was glad to get back and put my feet up again. It was interesting to test my knee out, even if I discovered it isn't as good as I thought

I suppose I should be doing something productive, but I am sitting resting my knee playing Quiz Up.

Highly addictive pastime which you can down load from the iPad store. There are lots of categories and you play against people from all over the world. It keeps the old brain and reactions going. I mainly play Back to School Science, I am currently number 7 in the UK for October, I would be higher but I was away for the first week. There is even a category on Australia, if you download it,I could challenge you Sue :-D
It is on Android as well, I like trying odd categories, the only thing which annoys me is that it uses American spellings, so when you are searching through the multiple choice answers it is just enough to put me off for a split second and that loses points. Anyway, I happily fill in time learning new things

Happy Thanksgiving Day Sylvia, enjoy the turkey

Thank you Jax for the news about Persie. It is interesting to see other people's houses, I see what she means about the mezzanine in the bedroom now, I could never understand that.

Houses made from wood still seem very foreign and exotic to me, it is good old brick or stone for us in England

Hi

yes ............. Thanksgiving is tomorrow ............ I just started talking about the turkey a little bit early :-)

Tonight, we'll have Lamb Creole ............ which is a lamb chop casserole, with tomato soup and herbs.

I only make casseroles ........... quick and dirty to make, and then cook in the oven without any watching :-)

I've been making that Lamb Creole since I was in university back in the 60s ............ so a good oldie

Nice to see you on here, Jax xx

Thank you for the message from Persie

Sue ...... that sounds as if you had a nice day out. Pity that Aidan fell.

Tasmania and Uhuru are now really the only places that we haven't been to in Australia.

Oh, and WA further than about 100km north of Perth, and the Peninsula north of Cairns .......... ?? the Carpenter Peninsula, or have I got that wrong?

From what people have said, I think we should have gone to Uhuru 30 years ago .............. but Tassie is still on the "list to visit if we ever get down under again".

I remember the lovely old buildings around Hobart. The brewery was built early.
Hobart is such a lovely place, something special about it, including the people.

Well enjoy your last day there whatever you do with it
- hope the weather picks up.

Must go to bed now,

Bye Sylvia if you're still around

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 12 Oct 2014 23:27

The brewery was built in 1827. Hobart is a very old city for Australia. It has some wonderful old buildings. Some of the old mansions are a sight to see.

Aiden was asked if he wanted the day off school but as it's the first day back after a break he opted to go back. The weather isn't good today so I'm not sure what the plans are. There is a very good art gallery here so we might have a look at that.

Must be off as I have just been made a cup of coffee. I suppose I should be sociable and chat with OH and son :-D

Goodnight Tec - sleep well <3

Enjoy the rest of your day Sylvia <3
