Jean,
someone after my own heart!!
My children think I'm crackers, but old habits die hard.
If everyone was a bit more careful,we wouldn't be in the state we are today.
Talk about recycling...we have been doing it for years!

Hi Jean, If you can't find new fabric to make collars for OH's beloved shirts, try rummaging in charity shops, There are always loads of good quality shirts that you could butcher for collars and cuffs.

If his shirt is a casual one, you can get away with a different colour if you do cuffs to match the collar.

I'm with you all, detest putting in new zips, it's the unpicking of the broken one that gets up my nose.

Nice to see I am not alone in this! Zips I no longer do, pockets at a push!

I used to do hubby's army shirts, years ago... you can't do the new shirts, can you? They are all creased and untidy at the back... the finish on the older shirts was much better, and so turning was ok.

I still have my darning mushroom, too... and Julia, I hated those zips, too!!

I have a huge box full of zips... I still cut them out of clothes I am binning, lol..... and haven't put a new one in for years!!

Love

Keith, you take the collar off the main body of the shirt, because it usually has frayed acroos the crease line. You then turn it round, and re attatch it to the shirt. You can do cuffs, the same way

Jean,I have done this plenty of times years ago for my dad. He was also a devil for getting me to put new zips in the trousers, a job I hated more than turning collars. You had to take all the placket off the trousers to get the new zip in, and machine it at a slight curve. I could make a new pair of trousers from scratch in the time it took me to do this. So, well done you.

and finished turning the collar on one of OH's very thin summer shirts. They are irreplaceable, cant find any like them. This is the second one i have rescued, but I wont be able to do it again, Think he will have to wear collarless shirts! Anyone else still do this? Back at 7pm to see.
