Well I do have a problem with people in high office holding down second jobs, even if only takes allegedly 1 hour on a Saturday night to write a column, but that's for another thread.

The thing that riled me was the dismissive way he spoke of £250,000 per annum as being chicken feed especially in the economic climate.

*reminds myself to see how much he gets paid to be Mayor of London if £250,000 is chicken feed*

Rox... your taste in men leaves a lot to be desired :)

Muffyxx Report 14 Jul 2009 16:37

Can't see a problem with it myself.

He reckons the other job takes him about an hour on a Sunday night..so it's hardly as if it's taking any time away from his mayor duties.

And if the Telegraph are happy to pay him.........then good for him..and them... none of anyone elses businesss as far as I'm concerned.

Unlike the fat cats at the BBC and in Parliament troughing themselves silly on public money xx

It begs the question does one need someone who devots energy to second job

Well....Ken Livingstone got kicked out of the labour party for being too left.

At least Boris has only been kicked out of Liverpool :-) And he doesn't give a damn which party he argues with, if he doesn't think their policies are right for his vision of London,

Hiya Jeannie:-)

If he said that then it was a silly statement to make, hardly chicken feed more like elephant feed:-))lol Sorry:-(( couldnt help myself.

I dont think their second jobs are anyones business to be honest, but what they get paid out of our money is.

I still like Boris:-))

BC for Mayor of London!

No maybe not, we'd have to call her 'your grace', doesn't seem right somehow hehehe

BC .... I am pmsl at 'not overly fond'. Very delicately put :)
O.K. he gives £50,000 to charity that still leaves him £200,000 per annum from a 2nd job and he still has the cheek to ask for reimbursement for a wreath he placed on a war memorial. Fortunately his request was turned down.

We will have to disagree over Ken who I thought did an absolutely wonderful job for London and Londoners but I would never fall out with you about anything let alone London politics.

Let's just say I would prefer someone, in fact anyone, with a bit more diplomacy than Mr Johnson.

ButtercupFields Report 14 Jul 2009 14:23

Well, I feel that if the newspapers wish to pay him this huge amount of money for the articles he writes, he would be a fool not to accept. It doesn't mention that he gives £50,000 of this to charity, but that is neither here nor there. I know you are not overly fond of Boris, Jeanie, and he certainly puts his foot in it more times than not, PLUS he has a terrible haicut! but, in my opinion, anyone is better than Ken Livingstone. BC XX. .

He's not the only one. I've jsut been reading about newsreader Kate Garraway, who has just refused to take a £70,000 a year pay cut. She's on £280,000 a year FGS, can't she manage on only £210,000?

I'd take her job for the price of the pay cut, let alone the remainder.

.............................................................Boris Johnson, the elected Mayor of London, has described the £250,000 salary from his second job as a columnist for the Daily Telegraph as chicken feed.

How the people of London ever voted for this man to
hold the 2nd highest elected office in the country mystifies me.

He is a walking PR disaster in my opinion and does nothing for the image of London.

Jean.
