My condolences to you and your family Maggie, 74 is certainly no great age as long as you have your health. It is hard to lose the older generation of a family so there will be sadness in your family now. No doubt it will also be a time of remembering the good times so keep your ears open!!

Hi Maggy,
My condolences to you all. How sad for you to lose yet another close family member so soon after losing your Dad. As you say 74 is no great age but if John was suffering you can't really wish him back, can you? If he and your Dad got on well, try to imagine them having a cuppa or a pint, as applicable, together and catching up with each other again. I always find that sort of thought rather comforting, I always picture my Mum getting the teapot filled and the cakes out, she was a great one for making sure visitors were well looked after so I bet she is up front everytime anyone new goes to that other place.
May John rest in peace now with your Dad.

....my father in law died yesterday (15th). He'd been ill for a while with chronic lung problems. But was 74, no great age really.

Brought back some unhappy memories too because it's only a year since I lost my own dad.

RIP John & Dad
