Hi, My family owned horses that performed in a circus at the Boscombe Hippodrome in the early 1900's. Finding any information has been extremely difficult. I know that Sanger's Circus performed there for awhile. Does anyone have any playbills, postcards etc or any info that can help.

I love horses Erika, and it must have been great for your family to have worked with them in this way.......

The only thing I can think of is to google.......Sangers is an important name in the Circus world and there must be a ton of information on them.......if not try googling Circus acts with horses in the 1900's, or anything along those lines.......you may be surprised what comes up.....

Good luck with your research......having a succession of ag.labs, miners and seamen in my tree.......I would have loved someone who dealt with horses.....

Thanks Sally. I have googled this so much and get the same useless info. However your clue for a different search may help. Will give it ago. I also have plenty of agricultural laborers in my tree. I have a lot of Kimber's and they all seem to be ag lab. and come from the same area. I have always loved horse, used to ride a lot when younger. Was told I was a natural..lol. Now I know why. I also have relly's who played, made and taught violin. Then they changed trades and became saddle makers. I am tone deaf, tried to play many times with no luck.

Hi Christine, Thanks for the lead. Hi Erika, I need to sort out what I can give you in the way of info. I don
't know if we have a connection. The family I am researching is Kimberley, yours is Kimber. It is very close. My lot dabbled in the circus, they were equestriann commedians, in rope making, boot making, and somewhere there are chemists thrown in.

I'll give you my thread address and also a circus site you might like to look at.

If you have access to ancestry I have a tree on there containing Kimberley information.

I am mindful of the difference in names but it is food for thought.

aagh....I've just spent another 2 hours searching and reading but still nothing of relevance...am at a loss. :(

Of course the other avenue you may like to try is the Romany people, or gypsies. They have quite a comprehensive web site with lots of information. They were always connected to horses, and circus and ag labour type pursuits.

Erika, If you have access to Ancestry. Search the census and voter collection. Just put in the word equestrienne or horse rider in the "more" box and kim* in the family name box. See what comes up.

Nope forget that idea. Might as well just search the name Kimber.
