I have tried Rambling Rose, I have found out that the man who sent it was called Artur stegemann and was born in berlin and his wife was called minna, they had a son born in 1918 called Gerhard, and Artur and minna both died in lubeck in the 1970's, but thats all I know.

How interesting Agatha , it would be lovely if you could find out the story behind it.. . I wonder if you could trace the family in Germany?

No.......haven't found anyone so far Rose........but how good to see that someone was prepared to stand up and be counted ....... even though the court again found Dreyfuss guilty......although he was subsequently pardoned.........such people are to be admired.....

Hello our Sue :)) lol

I don't have anyone famous, but my mum stood by her convictions always, of kindness and compassion towards humanity as a whole regardless of race, creed, colour or sexuality, so I am very proud of her :))

In my tree there is a man called Alf Walker who was a WW2 british serviceman and he had a wooden bowl from someone in Lubeck Germany called Artur Stegemann thanking him for all he had done, but Alf never spoke of it so nobody knows what he did, but I like to think he was a hero.

Hello our Rose,

Sadly haven't found anybody of note who contributed in that way. They may have done something I would be proud of but nothing to warrant tremendous publicity so I'll never know :-((

One of the things I found particularly satisfying about the programme was hearing of someone , ie Celestin Hennion, who stood up to be counted. He had the courage of his convictions to stand with the Jewish family at Dreyfus' funeral to show he was in "their camp" at a time when anti-semitism was rife.

Is their someone in your family who you respect for the courage of their convictions , even though you may never have met them?
