I watched this when I got home and it really resonated with me. It was so sad. It made me realise that if Grandma's family hadn't supported her as an unmarried mother my mum could have been taken to the foundling hospital in London.

It was fascinating wasn't it Sue? I do enjoy watching that programme, and it's one positive thing about being an unemployment statistic at the moment.

My Grandmother worked in a home for unmarried mothers in Portsmouth, connected I believe to St Boniface Mission in Gosport. She had some sad tales to tell, but there was usually a fairly positive outcome for them.

It certainly made me think and appreciate the family I had as a child growing up :) Though a sad and lonely situation for all those children to be in .... the alternatives appeared much worse for some !

Just brought home to me what effect Gt. Grandpa's support meant, I'd never really considered it before. He was a policeman so had a good income and could obviously afford to support Grandma.

If she had been given up my whole family history would have been so different.

How sad that a woman had to give up all four children.
Glad that Julia had a happy life after such a harrowing start.

Sad that the poor girl had to find out her father had died, after not seeing him for years.
As she said, she now knows where he is.
