genealogy lol.

Watching WDYTYA, it occured to me, witht the latest in software and imaging technology (is that the right phrase ?) would it
a) be possible to use photos or portraits of ancestors and by combining the images on both sides of family come up with an image of present day descendants..

or B ) come up with a 'likely' portrait of an ancestor

( it was prompted by Davina wondering if her ancestor was the illigitimate child of George 4th)

lol Maggie, I am not technical enough to know ;) but there is a 'look' on the maternal side ,me, mum, nan, and gt gran all have it, my son looks very like i did when I was young...on a boy it is quite 'handsome' on me it was plain lol

RR, I've come across an old picture from the turn of the century and one of the coal trimmers is the doppelganger of my father, his grandfather was a coal trimmer and I'm convinced it's him, The photo was taken in Newport btw

that reminds me Maggie, when I lived in Kent in my 20s a man used to travel on same bus, he was the spitting image of my dad who died when i was 10...very strange.

Now this is strange but true....

I have a group pic of ancient chaps one of whom is my grandfather. How did I find out which was the right one,,,,ears.

Men's ear get larger as they age and if you compare father and son's ears (assuming they favour each other), the face changes but the ears don't.

I found the chap who looked like Father but had the exact same ears. It was later confirmed that I was right :-))

There's a picture of me at a very young age with my face covered in chocolate looking the double of a photo of my father at a similar age in the same circumstances!

But... as I get older, some people who know both my parents are starting to comment that I look more like my mother! As far as I can tell I have my father's eyes and nose and my mother's mouth and chin.

Maggie, the resemblence is uncanny and the times and dates all add up, I'm sure it is

I am sure it's possible.
I watched a tv programme recently regarding the anniversary of Maddy McCann's disappearance, and how they are proceeding with the case. They showed a 'photo image' of how Maddy is likely to look now. And they explained how they did it...an expert in the USA studied photos of Maddy and pin pointed whose features she had, ie mum's nose, dad's chin, mum's shape of face etc. to give him a basis on what she'd inherited from whom.
Then, using photos of the parents as children and as adults, the expert worked out the face she would now have.
I thought is was very clever.
So if they can do it that way, then you'd think it must be possible to work in the other direction too. I have no photos of ancestors beyond g. grandparents, and would love to see what they looked like.

I thought of that Karen, also an episode of CSI lol where Grissom and team 'aged' a photo of a missing girl by combining features from a photo of her mother at the 'updated' age.
