ANYONE, BUT I WOULD LIKE OPINIONS ON THIS SUBJECT PLEASE.
IS IT A POSTCODE LOTTERY??

A GRANDSONS DADS WIFE WAS DUE HER BABY 10DAYS AGO.
SHE HAS BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL GIVE HER 14DAYS OVER HER DUE DATE.
THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER, AND BY THE TIME HE WAS BORN HE WAS 15DAYS OVERDUE, WHICH IN TURN CAUSED THE AFTERBIRTH TO BREAK UP.

AND YET A FRIEND OF A FRIENDS DAUGHTER WAS DUE THE SAME DAY, AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ONLY LEAVE HER 10DAYS OVER HER DUE DATE.
THEY ARE BOTH IN THE SAME HEALTH SERVICE AREA, BUT LIVE IN DIFFERENT DISTRICTS.

I have 3 babies and with all there were deifferent procedures in place every time I was lucky mine were always early nosey...cant think where they get it from..

I WONDER????

JUST WORRIED FOR THIS GIRL, AS SHE WAS TOLD SHE WOULD NEVER HAVE A BABY, AND IS OVER 30YRS OF AGE.

JUST PRAYING THAT ALL GOES WELL FOR HER.

I think hospitals are fairly careful these days, but if your relative is worried perhaps she can have a word with her GP or midwife.

vods my first was almost 3 weeks over.[i knew when he was concieved ...dallas if i remember right.]i had ceasarian cos he was in distress .2nd son 2 weeks ...3rd shoct out like an exocet missile.....lol.3 days late

I think the average in most areas, to go over due date is 14 days .... usually the docs monitor mum-to-be on a regular basis during the last days/weeks .... but as Fiona has said ... if they are unduly worried, then speak with their midwife or GP :)

I moved house mid-way through my second pregnancy and had to find a new doctor. Not knowing the area, I went to the closest, who turned out to be "old fashioned". Baby was due Dec.30 and at my visit on Dec 2, he said the head was engaged and 'ready'. When I asked when to come again, he said "see you in hospital". I went home with the idea that it would all be over by Christmas - BUT - nothing happened until 11th January! Although twelve days overdue, it was a fairly quick and easy birth. (Easy in THEIR terms - I didn't think it was funny!).

I still consider myself lucky, as I had a friend who went two weeks over, and she went back to the doctor, who rushed her to hospital - but too late to save the baby. The doctor could hear heartbeats, but they had stopped by the time she got to the hospital

Most doctors like to see their patients weekly in the last few weeks, and that includes the time when they are overdue. I hope your friend is being monitored like this. If so, then the medicos must know what they are doing - but tell her not to leave it too long between visits.

THIS HAPPENED TO THE NEICE OF A CLOSE FRIEND OF MY DAUGHTERS JUST BEFORE LAST CHRISTMAS.

IT IS SAD TO LOSE A BABY AT ANY STAGE, BUT SO TRAGIC WHEN IT HAPPENS FULL TERM.

THIS GIRL HAS BEEN TOLD IF SHE DOESN'T GO BEFORE THEY WILL INDUCE HER ON TUESDAY.

They should be able to tell the condition of the placenta from an ultrasound.

If all looks good and the baby isn't measuring super big, she should be fine.

Remember, 40 weeks is just an average. Anywhere between 38-42 weeks is normal.

You have a point Rose.
They told my daughter she was going to have a very small baby, so she bought small clothes.
He was hardly small at 8lb 11/2oz, so she gave the things she had bought to a girl whose baby was very small, so they didn't go to waste.

I think this only going to see your midwife instead of going to the hospital for your checks isn't suck a good thing.
At least when I had mine, you knew if there was a problem there and then, and they admitted you from the ante natal clinic.
Mind, we didn't have the advantage of scans back then.

They calculate a pregnancy (40 weeks) from the 1st day of your last MP.
You are most likely to conceive around day 14 of a 28 day cycle, but as this varies from woman to woman, the prediction length of any full term going pregnancy cannot be established 100%.. So in comes the 14 day leeway.

In the last weeks up to the woman's due date, I think mum gets seen once a week. I remember keeping a kick chart, or at least being asked to report any significant decrease in normal day to day movement.

It may be that this lady's friend has a slightly different cycle, has her baby growing at a differing rate, or has other differences to her pregnancy.
I would suggest if shes worried to contact her midwife team and ask for reassurance.

When I had Connie (10) due to a previous C section due to son & heir being breech, I was asked how I wanted to give birth, I opted for a trial of labour as she was head down, & they induced me 2 days after my due date (twice). This put her & me into distress (OUCH) & I had to have an emergency section that evening (with epidural by then LOL )

So Vods, there are risks with every pregnancy, the odds are good that she will have a lovely bundle of cuddle at the end & remember the olden days ?,

My old nan used the phrase "When the apple is ripe it will fall"

And in most cases today, it will :o)))

BABY WAS BORN AROUND LUNCH TIME TODAY AFTER MORE THAN 31HRS IN LABOUR.
MUM WAS INDUCED SATURDAY, BUT MUM & BABY ARE SAFE.

I had food poisoning at 33 weeks and my son was born at 39 weeks -1 day...........

The placenta is very good at keeping going as when his was delivered it was what they call grainie....which ment it was breaking down badly....(so I was told)....my son was fine and he is still ok to this day 17 years on!!

If the baby slows down with movement go to the midwife or hospital.....
