I think GR should take note of how many times individuals complain regarding specific peoples posts or threads, to see if the thread / post is really that offencive as its reported as (EG- that post offended Mrs whatnot down the roads cousins brothers wife's cat)

................ or is it really the complainers dislike of the poster which makes them nit pick the post or thread to find a reason for complaint ??.

Some of us who know programming, know that it would not be hard to say "This post has been deleted by an administrator (breach of rules)" OR "This post has been deleted by an administrator (abusive language)" etc.
OR "This post has been deleted by the poster".

If an administrator deletes an entire thread, the originator of the thread should ALWAYS be notified of the reason.

GR should read all posts. How would it be if a newspaper editor or a book publisher didn't read before printing? It's part of the job!

If they were to read all posts, it would not take long for them to recognise the same few people who cause the problems, instead of suspending those who have been goaded into saying one thing wrong. Treat the cause!

If they insist that they DO read all posts - then we have no problem. I think we have said it all here!

Hello Lynda
I know it was you who reported my thread .... but hey I have moved on from that .......
what I wanted was an Email from GR telling me they removed it
as it went within 5 minuets of you saying you were reporting it
I didnt delete it so was waiting for the Email from GR
in the end I wrote and asked them
hence the reply I posted

Regarding the message:
"This post has been deleted by the poster or an administrator"

Could this please be separated into two so that we know whether it was the poster OR an administrator who deleted it?

When a post is 'reported', why does the whole thread get deleted, when the post was aside from the subject being discussed? Many an interesting thread has been taken away from us merely because some weirdo decides to mess it up.

I cite the incident in recent weeks when a very friendly condolence thread was something for the bereaved to be comforted by - but one person posted a sarcastic message and the whole thread was lost before the person it was meant for had a chance to read all of it. This is disgusting. No wonder members are migrating to other sites where the control seems to be much more severe.

Dear Jen

We will not discuss individual postings but please be assured that our moderation team follow strict guidelines and individually examine each report that is made to them.

A posting or image is only removed from the site if it breaches the Guidelines of message board use and these are posted on every Message board page.

Here is a link to those guidelines for your reference:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/genesreunited.asp?wci=grstatic&type=guidelines

It would not be in our interest to remove postings unneccesarily nor to accept postings which breach our guidelines and we follow a tight moderation policy to ensure that a consisitent approach is adopted.

If you believe that other inappropriate postings remain on the site. please let us know by clicking on the 'report' link which appears to the right of each posting.

I thank you in advance of your co-operation.

Best regards,

morning Keith, How are you.
I have not been here long, I do not know about threads being deleted

Rambling

Rambling Report 18 Jul 2009 08:34

Perhaps if you get sensible replies on this thread it could be copied and sent to admin?

Rambling

Rambling Report 18 Jul 2009 08:32

I think you are right Keith, it has come to the point where GR should give a specific reason for the deletion at very least . For eg,

1 Post breaches T & C , abusive language
2 post likely to be infringement of copyright
3 post racially offensive

etc etc

Reported posts MUST be read by admin before deletion,

that is the only way to remove the suspicion that the RR button is being used merely out of spite. (imo)
