Nothing confusing about it Robin, lol,

I believe in God, a God,.... that doesn't mean he exists,
same way as someone NOT believing, means God doesn't exist....

I think our thoughts on him are irrelevant to his existence ...we won't have any real grasp on the matter till we are dead, so best to make the most of it here and now, 'just in case',
whilst being as kind as we can to others and the world 'Just in case' ! lol

(Not that I am advocating some sanctimonious, " I'd better stick too the rules so I get to heaven" kind of thing...just being the best person you can be for your own 'completion' if not God's )

Here endeth my Sunday morning sermon lol , may your God go with you ;)

I am totally confused.

Am I to take it that there may not be a God after all ?

And if there is no God ............................. it doesn't bear thinking about !

Rambling

Rambling Report 19 Jul 2009 00:50

The only certain thing is that when we die, if there is a God, those who didn't believe in him will find out...and if there is NO God those who did believe in him, won't :)

Rambling Report 19 Jul 2009 00:49

I don't like to 'pigeonhole' God lol... it is pretty irrelevant whether one calls him Allah , Jahwe, jehovah... Fred... lol

there is no 'whose God' ...If there is a God, there is a God lol...quite what he is , is beyond our comprehension.....

Conan

Conan Report 19 Jul 2009 00:43

But who's God can I expect to believe in me ?

Night Stella , sleep well :))

Doesn't matter, in any case ,not putting words in Jean's ( or anyone's) mouth , we all 'believe' in 'something'... maybe that is compassion , kindness ,basic humanity, love... doesn't have to be a 'god'...just life itself, our existence....

anyway , I have never thought it an essential that one believes in God...only that God believes in you lol .

But what if, like Jean, you have no beliefs whatsoever ?

Hi Elizabeth, Contrary ,& Rose

I think Leonard Cohen sings it better than JB. Have you seen the Utube version when he first sang it. His latest version is much mellower I think.

I find that no matter how many times one listens to him there is a different interpretation. I expect it has something to do with the poet side of him.

also, picking words carefully, it may have something to say about the letting go of 'self' in giving love to another.....

I think I should get off to bed LOLOL

Rambling Report 18 Jul 2009 23:57

ok to me it is about offering up the best of what you are, flawed and limited though that is, as a prayer, as a sacrifice, as all you can give back to your God, or creator, or whatever you believe in ...or as my old english tutor said ( roughly ) ' The achievement of one life lived"

Rambling Report 18 Jul 2009 23:52

lol Robin, only message is that I like Leonard Cohen !

I am sure there are many different interpretations of the song , just trying to put into words my own lol...I may be some little time!

Forgive me ....................... I am not at my best right now.

So what is the message that I should be taking with me to my bed tonight ?

Dear All

Hello,

I agree.

Jeff Buckley is the best.

The BBC used the song as trailer music for their programmes.
I heard it and I was stunned at the beauty of the words.

Best wishes to all

I just think this is such a great line

"Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah"

Rambling Report 18 Jul 2009 15:33

"Hallelujah"

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
