I understand your problem Ann.

I find that ease of hearing also depends on the type of phone used by the person making the incoming call.
When phoning Mum I always used to use our upstairs ( old fashioned) BT phone, as Mum could always hear me much better that way.
Certain people call us and I can sometimes hear almost an echo. .... very off putting.

Technology moves on so rapidly these days so unless there is someone out there who has recently bought one, the chances are if they bought it a few years ago it is no longer available.

Having said that, the answer may also be as long as a piece of string.

These days you tend to get what you pay for. How much is your budget? Do you want corded or cordless? Some simple phone only have a volume control to adjust the level of the incoming sound. Others may have induction loop technology. Is this something that you might want? A lot depends on the nature and level of your hearing loss.

The BT site has some 'case studes' which might help you decide what you need.

Good luck

AS someone who works with people with sensory impairments, I would recommend that you check out the RNID website http://www.rnid.org.uk.

They have a shop too.

However why pay for it if you can get it through your local council who should be able to assist in person, make recommendations and even give you the equipment free. Call The council and ask to speak to someone in the Sensory Impairment or Physical Disabilities Team.

Hope you find one suitable for you.

Fi :)

thank you Fi but my hearing is not that impaired, just mild compaired to some. Anyway, we went out today and bought a couple of BT phones (one is used as an intercom), they have volume and ringer control, tested it with daughter and could hear her very well. I will keep a note of the web site though in case my hearing deteriorates further so thank you again.
