Have just moved house and there is a lovely orange coloured rose in the garden but its in a pot that is too small for it when is the best time for me to move it without killing it? Does anyone know best time to move a rose? Thanks

I'm no expert but to be honest, I'd have no qualms about moving it now - weather is far from dry - dig a large hole, fill it with water, pop it in, cover over and water again - repeat the watering for a few days if necessary

you should really wait until it has flowered unless you can move the whole lot of the soil without disturbing the roots.

Are the roots coming out of the bottom of the pot? If they are, it'll be better for it to move it... but be prepared to lose flowers for this year!!

If you are putting it into the garden, cut off all blooms except one bud (I love to see one bud growing), dig a hole roughly twice as wide and a bit deeper thatn the pot it's in, and *ruffle up* the bottom... add well rotted manure, or soil improver to the pile of soil, and to the hole... a couple of handfulls, depending on the size of the rose, add some special rose feed into the hole and water the hole well, chuck in the rose, add the improved soil, and tamp down firmly.... I also then add even more water to help it settle... then add a little mulch of the manure or some bark around the base..... water regularly (unless it's tipping down like now) and also feed every couple of weeks.... just sprinkle or water it in, depending which type.

Oh, and if it is straggly, cut the straggly bits back to a notch... google rose growing, or replanting roses, and you'll find loads of info, but the above has worked best for me.

Good luck!!

Good luck in your new home!

I don't know if it is too big but if you don't know what the rose is, you might take it in it's small pot to a garden centre and ask them to identify it for you, and they will advise on the time to move it etc.
