Pud, do you mean Holyland a surname or place?

There is a Hoyland Common not too far away

Pud, I hear the people up in Yorkshire are a jolly freindly bunch (I compliment myself there) and especially in sheffield (Where I went to uni). I'm sure if you need a gentle introduction, they'll be plenty of nice people on hear to lend you a hand, perhaps meet you for an hour a week at your local library or what ever... I don't think help should be limited to your message inbox - you need to be shown how these things come togehter.
Where are you based, and is there anyone that is willing to do that for this Yorkshire Pud?
I should add the usual warning about meeting people that you speak to in dodgy forums on the internet....

Best wishes everyone!

P.S if you give me access to your tree, or the information you have, I'll do my best to get you started, but I'm not in sheffield anymore and therefore can't check the parsih records, so will probably get stuck the generation before 1837.

SRS Holyland is the surname & copious amounts of information has already been found.

YP, may I suggest that you read the numerous threads containing tips for newbies?

An alternative would be a family history course, you may find details by contacting your local library.
