All cards with badges and other embellishments need a large second class or first class stamp which costs more than the normal. A card makers nightmare!!

This card was for my Grandson & was slightly thicker as it had a badge on it.

is the site for working out how much postage is due

Lot's of people still don't realise tha tif you are posting a large A4 envelope, that you can't use ordinary 1st or 2nd class stamps for instance. you need the stamps which say large on them

Even the correct size can be held back due to thickness, so be aware of thicker envelopes too.

Beware of tall thin cards. There is a set length covered by 1st class stamp. Any longer then extra postage is due.
We knew they couldn't be too wide to go through the standard slit in post offices, but got caught out because a card was just a little too 'tall'.
Cards with embellishments, eg stuck-on decorations, may be classed as too thick for standard cost too.

Before you put a letter or card into the post box, do youcheck if you have paid enough postage?

I got a card from the PO saying that they would not deliver something to us until they received £1.08.

It was a basic sized B/day card, not an extra large one & the sender had put a First Class stamp on it. The £1.08 was 08p extra postage due & £1 handling charge
