Linda,

Fresh sausages are in abundance over here and very tasty I might add, but does not make up for childhood memories of a taste long gone.

As far as I know thery never had fresh vienna's in Portugal, but back home we had those red juicy ones that are no longer to be found.

None of my boys eat sausage in any shape or form at all.

A packet of hot chips with two vienna's, salt and vinegar was a treat for us children when we were walking home from school, after an afternoon of sport practice. There were no buses at that hour.

Agatha, Omlette Mate is / was a little tin of some thing like mushroons or tomato to mix with your omlette, they were tasty.

Thank you Agatha,

I did, funny thing is I make my mouth water for a lot of things we don't have anymore.

There was a time when I used to get marmite from the UK but my supplier has since retired and moved back to the UK....

Bless him for the wonderful forgetful man that he was, could never remember my name and always called me the marmite lady ...lol..I know that I can buy marmite online but I never remember when I feel like it...

Many moons ago I taught my other half to make "Hot Dogs" the way my Dad used to make.

Fry lots of onions and tomatos with spices and a bit of water, put fresh vienna sausages into the mixture and scoop onto hotdog bread.

Since then the fresh vienna's have disappeared and it is now a frankfurter smoked or bottled, but taste's nearly as good.

Just had two and washed them down with a bottle of beer.

Heaven....in a bread roll.
