thanks for the replies

was just wondering as I posted details yesterday and got told off, however on my very first post asking for information some kind soul posted details of all my aunts and uncles births and even my father's death which I might not have known about.

I guess it just depends on who reads the posts?

The concern is that Genes is an open forum so anything posted on it can get picked up by a Google search. I do lots of look ups and try to be mindful of people's privacy if the info is from about 1930 onwards as these may be still alive.
I know i wouldn't want my birth ,marriage and daughters info posted on an open forum for it to be seen by everybody. although i have nothing to hide its my personal details. Plus another thought is some info can be potentially embarrassing if a child's birth seems a bit near the marriage,People would really not want that on an open forum
I guess its a matter of being a bit discreet with others personal details.
I will PM the info to the enquirer rather than post it as a reply.

There are none as such.

But to post details of living relatives in your tree you need their permission and I think this is what concerns some members as to whether or not to post birth details of any one who could be living

But the information is readily available on websites so it depends on who answer a thread

Can someone explain the rules on posting birth dates in threads please? At what year do stop posting on here in case that person may still be alive???

Quite confused!
