My son loves the stuff so much he would live on it. I buy it from sainsburys so it should be okay.

Hmm Peanut butter or paste. To be eaten in these combinations, peanut butter and honey, peanut butter and apricot jam, peanut butter and vegemite. Good in satays. Lovely in peanut butter biscuits.

Have you seen the movie Meet Joe Black? Brad Pitt and peanut butter, yummy yummmmmmmm!!

I like the natural smooth variety. The one you still have to mix the oil back into the peanut paste.

Lindy, you paint such a picture lol

I had an American boyfriend once who lived on an airbase in Suffolk, he offered to make me peanut butter and jelly (jam) sandwiches once lol, put me right off him! I don't like peanut butter yet I love roasted peanuts!

Evening Liz,

The mind boggles,

I love the stuff as does OH and and our son David.

We buy "Skippy" which we eat "A la finger" and not on bread...

Disgusting! I know, but oh so good!

Lindy ;))))))))))))))

I know some see things like this as scaremongering but with the recession and people buying from cheapo stores sometimes, it may be that someone has bought it and I just feel better safe than sorry.

Whilst these sort of warnings need to be taken seriously, they also need to be put in context.

"may be an increased risk of cancer in people whose diets include high levels of Aflatoxins"

This means you would have to consume high quantities of the stuff to suffer and increased risk - it doesn't mean you will get it, nor does it say what that increased risk actually is.

Personally I don't like the stuff.

A warning was issued today for people not to eat a peanut butter spread which might be toxic.

Norfolk County Council Trading Standards' Officers are warning people not to eat a peanut butter spread or peanut paste which could have levels of the toxin Aflatoxin which are too high.

Groundnut products manufactured by Mardoro Ltd and Jesu Aka Ltd have been found to contain excessively high levels of Aflatoxins.

Norfolk Trading Standards' Officers are currently trying to identify Norfolk retailers which may stock the brands of peanut butter spread and peanut paste.

To date, these products have not been found in Norfolk.

Aflatoxins are naturally found in some foods, and are produced by certain moulds that grow on foods in tropical and sub-tropical countries.

However, there may be an increased risk of cancer in people whose diets include high levels of Aflatoxins.

The products also fail to comply with food labelling legislation.

Anybody who has bought peanut butter or the peanut paste manufactured by Jesu Aka or the Active brand made by Mardoro Ltd, should return it to the shop they bought it from for a refund, or dispose of it.

They are also asked to contact Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 with details of where and when the product was purchased. Businesses needing advice can telephone 0344 8008013.
