Well I have had this swine flu, confiirmed ,and 3 weeks on with second dose of anti bios as it gave me a throat infection tiredness plus a nasty cough.

I think everyboy is having different symptons........but its not so different from common flu but comes on lot faster....so hopefully will go as quick as it came,,,,,

I have not had flu for donkey's years as I take loads of meds for so many allergies and asthma as well.

Last winter I was hit, on a number of occasions with the beginning of flu symptoms but fortunately managed to over come before being knocked for six.

Whether these comparisons are right or wrong, I for one am not in a position to dispute this. What I do know is that for someone who does not get the flu. I am glad to know that whoever at the Ministry of Health took it upon themselves to give us an outline as to what to expect has an inkling as to what they are talking about.

Therefore I know what to look out for.

In fairness to those picking up the phone, with symptoms they are being given the antivirals by trained staff and doctors. You can only go of the advice given.
If you have other problems then it is advisable to take the antivirals to reduce the symptoms and they have to be taken within 48 hours of symptoms so it is a good idea to seek advice if your temperature is high and you dont feel well.

The best way to stop it spreading is to stay at home and handwash regularly, not drag yourself into work coughing & spluttering over everyone because you cant have a sick day or two!

Jean I agree with you- common flu has been underated- it totally wipes you of your feet for weeks and takes months to get back to normal. If you had flu and there was a £20 note on the floor you would not have the energy to pick it up.

thank you Lindy
most people up in the Boro are scurrying round with common flu
thinking its swine flu one sneeze and its on the phone
dont they know if they take the anti virals
if they do get swine flu it will be less affective

some are just panicking for nothing

Hi Lindy,

Well all I can say is that those comparisons were made by a person that has never had common flu.

I had it over the millenium, it lasted for 3 weeks and for 2 of those I couldn't get out of bed and I lost over 1 stone.

I'm not belittling the symptoms or severity
of swine flu but believe me a real dose of common flu makes you feel intensely unwell in my opinion.

I know several people who have had swine flu but luckily they must have had a very mild dose as they were up and running after 3/4 days.

Thanks Lindy, I'll keep a note of that.

I thought I had common 'flu a few years ago, when I took to my bed and couldn't get out of it for 10 days....slept about 95% of the time......now I'm wondering what the heck THAT was!!!!

Im at home with it right now.

Really bad sore throat, (red raw) vice like headache, hot & cold chills, a little bit achy in my neck and legs, but I have asthma so doc wanted to err on side of caution an has prescribed Tamiflu. He said could be swine flu, but I have not got a very high temp. Supposedly first signs are high temp and a dry cough, then everything else kicks in, Everyone seems o be different.

Not wholly convinced I have it, feels like a bad cold, but still isolated to bedroom and staying away from the kids- just in case.

I am assuming that this is just a guideline issued by the department of health so people have a general idea as to what to expect.

There are always the exceptions to the rule.

Then again, a colleague who tested positive for swine flu only had a very sore throat, slightly raised temperature and a mild headache, she was better within 7 days.

She was tested as she has other health problems that need careful monitoring.
