yes its a great birthday party game where the kids whip up there own pizzas and there own ice cream sundaes.
We have a simple family one which is thin spread tomato paste generous smoked chicken and little teaspoon sized scoops of cream cheese and a small sprinkle of mozarella on top

I used to, when my kids were at home, though I'll admit to buying the pizza bases, and the tomato topping, but adding all my own ingredients to it. Mozzerella, ham & pineapple, pepperoni and so on, whatever they wanted. Much nicer, much tastier.

However, there is only me an OH now and he hates pizza, so its not worth me buying the bases and ingredients just for me, so I treat myself occasionally to either a frozen one or a takeaway if he's having a kebab.

I use a packet mix to make the base, letting it rise for longer than it says in a warm place. I caramelise some onions, and use a thin layer of tomato puree - adding musrooms and whatever cheese we fancy.

And for pasties (we're veggie) buy some ready rolled puff pastry, roll it out a bit thinner, cut into about 4 bits and put in whatever filling you like. Leek,brie and mushrooms works well, or potatoes, onions and carrots cooked with a bit of curry or chili powder. Make sure you seal them up well or your filling will escape!

Thanks ladies for your replies.The thing is, I am trying to cut fown on meat. OH likes the meat pies he gets from the local farm shop, but I am not such a great pie lover. So, as I don't mind Pizza, I thought I would have a go at making my own. I know all the bits and pieces I would like to put on top, but not sure of what tomato base to use, which one is the best.
Any advances on the Cornish Pasty front

OH makes pizzas occasionally, ditto cornish pasties. I just eat them.

We make our own pizzas, but do cheat a bit. the base is usually a large round garlic ciabatta bread, then put on a small amount of tinned tomatoes, not too much juice or the base goes soggy, sprinkle on some basil and oregeno herbs, gratted mozzerella and chedder cheese, then sliced tomatoes and any else we fancy, pepperami slices, mushrooms etc, cook for 20 mins. yummy

I make my own toppings, but not the bases. Don't like 'deep' pizzas, only thin and crispy. I like a nice tasty tomato topping, as you say sometimes the shop ones are too bland (or too much meat/cheese etc.)

Just curious to see if anyone goes to the trouble of making their own Pizza's. Though I don't mind Pizza occassionally, I do find them rather bland. Also, I find shop bought Cornish Pasties are not savoury enough for me
