Hi, the general rule of thumb the magistrates use , is a possible disqualification for 3 months (sometimes longer) if the offence speed (68) is 30mph or more than the limit..however not all courts sentence the same. If he passed his test within 2 years of the offence then he will get his licence revoked if he gets 6 points (which is almost guaranteed). If this happens, he will need to re-apply for his licence, and take the theory test again, and then his driving test again. His insurance will increase by quite a bit too. (info from OH who has just retired after 30yrs of police service)

At least he'll be paying the consequences for his actions himself, and not some poor innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It used to be called the innocence of youth but now seems to be more the ignorance of youth.

I'm not sure if he'll be sent on any further driving courses, afterall he is supposed to be a professional on the road, that's what makes me think he could pay a higher price because of his job.......... don't think a judge would take lightly to a member of the "blue light" brigade speeding recklessly!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doing a motorway speed when you aren't on a motorway doesn't suggest responsible driving with a duty of care for other road-users. Fine, points on your license, even losing your job are probably the least horrendous of the possible outcomes for such idiotic behaviour.

I have heard that they often send them on a course to learn the error of their ways.....
does he realise how lucky he was not to kill someone?
So irresponsible, and not a 'small' speed over, but TWICE the speed!!

You can plead mitigation if losing your licence results in extreme hardship ie losing your job.

He has told his employers and they shed a very bad light on this due to the nature of his job, apparently he was going to catch a train, forgot his ticket so dashed home to get it.......... I suppose we'll know the outcome soon.

It will be such a shame if he loses his job because of this, he does drive for his employer, however he has a job that holds some responsability and knows that it's not tolerated............ time will tell.

Usually, fine, points and or ban, all in different degrees depending on the magistrate and the area you committed the offence. They can offer a an advaced drivng course to prevent points on the licence

Empoyees do not have to know about offences only criminal records unless you are employed as a driver etc.

We all know what should happen but it wont!

20 year old I know received 18 month ban and a fine but could reduce if he completed an advance course in driving. That was for drink driving twicwe over the limit

this sounds like a very light punishment.............. well he might get of lightly with them but not from his employers!!!

That's the thing........... silly lad works in a circle that has to deal with that sort of thing................. OH was absoulately gob smacked when this lad approached him and told him what he'd done!!!

I totally agree with the both of you............ whatever the outcome it will cause problems for my OH......... he's not a happy bunny.......... he can't express his feelings and views due to the nature of his job, so I have to listen to his ranting!!!!

My OH has asked me to see if anyone ones the punishment for the above offense.

My OH works for a "service" 1 of the lads under him has stupidly commited this offense and has obviously been caught in the act by the police. I know what I think should happen........... however I'm not the one handing out the punishment!!!!

So any ideas what this lad can expect???
