Thank you to everyone for contributing their tuppence worth! It was very enlightening to here the different viewpoints.

I must admit that some threads that I have read, have deletions which obviously held some useful information. As I normally only read threads which will help my own research, I find this very frustrating.

I obtain a lot of pleasure from my 'detective' work and I am happy to share the products of my toil with anyone who can use it. I also recognise the time and trouble that others put into their research, so I am grateful for any information made available to me.

So, thank you again for taking the time to respond to my query and good luck with your searching!

I don't understand 'tidying up' - I never delete my posts and it can be very frustrating when others do so.

A couple of months ago I put up a question on Tips. I got help, which I said thank you for and was very grateful. Luckily I c&p'd the thread and e-mailed it to my sister, cos when I went back to it a couple of days later, the most important and helpful posts had been deleted. I would have been furious if I hadn't taken a copy! I've since found out that this member always deletes her posts within 24 hours. So she gives help, then takes it back away!!! Can't understand it at all !

Some posts gone from a thread I put up less than a week ago, don't know why, there was nothing unpleasant on there and sometimes it throws the flow of comments out of kilter, people responding to 'nothing'

Seems silly to me, to tidy up quite so fast if that is what someone is doing.

I did make a suggestion to GR that they separate their message to show whether the post has been deleted by the poster OR an administrator - but no reply to that one.

Sometimes I delete a post if I've somehow managed to add it to the thread twice - it happens occasionally if the internet connection's playing up, and I think quite a few people tend to delete one post if they've double-posted.

Information given may be useful for someone else, so I would not remove that.

Some useful threads on the tips board are nudged (brought forward) for people to see, and the previous nudge removed.

However, if you have gone to the trouble of finding information for someone, it seems a shame to discard it, when someone else might be grateful to find it.

I have found some interesting connections by trudging through message boards. All information is useful to someone. A post could be as valuable as a certificate to some people.

(You can tell I'm not a book-burner! And yes, my house is cluttered! Lol.)

It always perplexes me to see so many posts deleted from these boards.

Anyone know why there are so many deletions? Surely they can't all be abuse?
