Help with death certificate

Unfortunately the nursing home is the only address I have for her, it was a bit of a shock finding out she only died 12yrs ago as my mum never kept in touch with her and I grew up thinking she had died years ago!

I googled the nursing home so I could get in touch with them and ask if they kept any records, I don't know how long such places keep stuff like that, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Elaine
Do you know where your grandmother would have been living prior to going into the nursing home?
Maybe they wouldn't tell you where she lived, but if you wrote asking for example ........

Did Mrs ( name ) who died at ( place) on (date) previously live at ( give address )?

They might be willing to confirm, rather than disclose information.

I know her maiden name, I just thought it would show on her death certificate so I would know that I definately had the right lady.

Unfortunately it doesn't give her husbands name either, it just says wife of --------- (no name) entered.

It should be recorded by then......
Does it say anything helpful in Section 6 ( think that's the correct one)
Does it say she was a widow, or wife of........ etc?

Hi Gwyn

it was registered in 1997

When was the registration?
It is only relatively recently that maiden name was recorded on a woman's death certificate.

I guess they wouldn't have needed to know really. Just would have made things a bit easier if it was on there lol.

Maybe both, why would the nursing home need her maiden name? Also the informant may not have known.

I've just received the death certificate of what I hope is my grandmother. The maiden name is missing though. I know she died in a nursing home and was 86, is it possible that if she divorced or seperated from her husband many years ago she just never gave her maiden name?

I'm fairly certain its the right one but it would have been alot more helpful if her maiden name was shown! Does a woman have to give her maiden name if going into a nursing home or could it have been that the person who registered her death just didn't know?

Thank you.
