It is all fresh meat, I don't as a rule buy frozen. But, given that many people do buy and freeze fresh meat I still think it should have the year on. OK I am quite good at knowing when I bought stuff but occasionally a pack may escape to the back of the tray (I have an upright freezer) and I find it a year later!!!

Maybe its because they dont want you to know how old it actually is.!!!
I should think you would know by the quality of how it looks, whether its edible or not.

Just check the dates on mine, most have the month and the year. Frozen peas have March 2011. Some have the lot, Spring rolls, 30 Jan 2011.

Your system of dating must be different than ours.

It could be that the meat you've got in your freezer was bought fresh and you froze it because I've noticed that fresh meat usually only has a date and month whereas if you buy it frozen it has a month and year use by date.

On meat etc the month is written as the word.
Yes, price is a clue. But i don't want to know how to solve it I want to know why they do it?

umm maybe because its not meant to be kept for over a year.

And why do my chips and peas always end up spilling out of the packages

Yes but why don't they put a year date on? is there a reason?

Sharron Report 28 Jul 2009 12:13

Cook it,taste it.If the year is wrong enough you won't like it.

Simples.

Searching my freezer for food - as you do, - I realised that although things have a date on them (eat by etc) the dates don't have a year on them. I wonder why that is, how can I tell one july from another??
