Organic food

Apparently, studies (no doubt paid for by us) have found that organic food is not going to make you live longer than than non-organic!

'They' seem to have lost the plot here - I think most people want organic food as it means consuming less pesticides and antibiotics. It also means much happier pigs!

What do other's think?

Happier Pigs.?????
some of the ones here in Kings Worthy are miserable.....lol

They seem to have just been comparing the food values of the two types and there is no difference. did anyone expect that there would be? They seem to have ignored the coating of pesticides and other nasty additives found in non organic

I could have told them eating organic doesn't make you live longer for nothing, the reason i eat organic meat and grow my own fruit and veg organically is because i don't want to eat growth hormones, anitbiotics and pesticides, nothing to do with wanting to live longer.

being free range obviously makes the animals happier but being fed on organic feed probably doesn't make any difference to pigs they will eat anything.

Good grief, Foggy - do you live in Kings Worthy?
We could have passed each other on the street!! LOL

There are some fantastic 'Pig towns' near Salisbury.

People are funny over this topic. I eat the ultimate free range food - deer, rabbits, game, etc. All killed by my own fair hands. But the same people who would eat supermarket irradiated cling film wrapped UV treated growth hormone laden red mushy meat will call me worse than a pickpocket!

Funny old world, isn't it :-)

As Hayley (also known as Madame X) will tell you, I only eat fish who have had a happy life..bad karma to do otherwise:-) They can produce as many costly, scientific arguments as they wish but I KNOW that I would prefer not to have chemicals in my body.....BC XX

Linda and Lorraine - my point exactly! Why did they need to spend our money on 'studies' when all we want is 'clean' food.
Even if it DOES contain the odd extra protein in the form of a caterpillar!!

Eldrick,
Venison is my favourite meat, and the culling the the best - running in the forest then 'bang' you're dead. No carting off in a lorry for miles then standing in queue while you hear/smell your fellow beasts being killed.

We have spent the whole day making up-teen jars of jam ( all organically grow fruit of our allotment ) along with blanching and preparing our carrots and " martoc " broad beans for the freezer.

We eat as little shop bought veg as possiable .

The powers that be may have decided to do studies on various food types but they are probably the same " powers that be " that have banged on about the virtues of GM crops................and I'm not swallowing any of their findings...........lol

I agree with eldrick wild game is the best, my brother shot the deer we had for his wedding reception dinner, my husband, a butcher, prepared it and hung it for a couple of weeks it was delicious we didnt tell the younger kids they where eating bambi for lunch though!!

My aunt lived in shropshire and when we where kids she made delicious rabbit stew, my uncle used to shoot pheasants and hang them in in his wood shed till the maggots dropped out, I drew the line at eating those.

Ooo Yuk Lorraine, maggots is the pheasants! It doesn't need any extra protein!
When I was an ag lab, we used to get a brace when 'they' went shooting - I prefer them fresh - they're easier to pluck as well!
