.....We are the Grand parents or GGGGGGGGGGGrandparents of those who are yet to be.......I hope they get to know who we really were.....for me...I would like them to know that I had a sense of humour ( to a point ) and loved to sing and share good fortune.

I would hate for them to look back and see me as a fish wife type of person....( No offence to fish wives :-))

Geezzz have to start writing things down. I wonder if the tracing of family trees will be so popular and how will they be done...Would it be the same as now? Hmmm something to think about !

6. Ode
Arthur O'Shaughnessy. 1844–1881

WE are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, 5
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities, 10
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure 15
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth; 20
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

Yes but does everyone have someone to hand the reins over to...of the researching we have been doing?

I intend to grow old disgracefully..........just as soon as my children are off my hands.......

I'd want to be remembered as a batty old bird with a mengarie of animals who said inappropriate things and farted loudly at family functions :0)

I'm already halfway there as it happens :0)

That's lovely, Rose.

We're already great great aunt and uncle to three little boys - my sister-in-law became a great grandmother at the age of 63.

I am doing a scrapbook called the Book of Me. It is an ongoing project that I'm doing with a small group of people. We all have memories and photos for our families but we forget ourselves. I'm encouraging my OH to write down his memories which I will then put into an album for him.

I also intend to write the family history of both sides of the family. These days you can get books bound by office supply businesses for quite a reasonable cost. I know that in future the albums will be kept but all my files will probably go in the bin. If I put it all into a book or album then I know there will be caretakers to carry it onto following generations - I hope.

I saw behind me those who had gone and before me those who were to come,
I looked back and saw my father and his father and all our fathers
and in front to see my son and his son and the sons upon sons and beyond,
And their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they felt, and were to feel, as then, so now,
as tomorrow and for ever.
Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line
that had no beginning, and no end,
and the hand of his father grasped my fathers hand,
and his was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand
and all up and down the line that stretched from time that was,
to time that is, and is not yet,
raised their hands to show the link.

Yes but we are all linked to some-one, even if we are just aunt or uncle.

I often wonder ( in pictures of the mind ) who my lot 'really' were and wonder if those who go before me will do the same about me.

It is a shame that GGGGGGGrt's are forgotten, when they may have been as strong a personality as we are. I want to make an imprint that will stay put!
