Its £7 with the GRO ref, If he didnt know the ref then they charge an extra £3 to search for it |

I've not tried it; I have never ordered a certificate without the ref numbers. I doubt you would get the certificate for £7 without it, though. |

The GRO would only charge him £7 for the second cert cos they would have done the search already and got their GRO ref so they wouldn't need to search again |

Not sure if you have to be a member. You can see BMD's on FreeBMD for nothing but they haven't got the more recent BMD's yet. |

Yes for the BMDS after 1916 you need to be a subs member on Ancestry. They carry the FreeBMD ones to 1915 although FreeBMD have gone beyond that year in transcribing .Ancestry is a sponser of FreeBMD so they work with each other and Ancestry uploads the revised FreeBMD records from time to time |
