Spent 3 hours today doing research for my neighbour in Genealogy place in Glasgow , found his mother`s mother who was a single lady , he knew already but not her name,

Its fascinating isn't it. When I hit a dead end with my lot I've ended up doing research for friends. I get so caught up in their excitement that I feel I know their family as well.

However, I recently did a course in family history (online) with central Lancs uni. Now normally having to reconstruct a family from Census, bmd's wills and parish registers would be wonderful but I just could not engage with this family. I really tried too.

Normally I get a little emotional when finding someone dying tragically young but this family, I was totally untouched. Its not because I had no link to them either, I've stood in graveyards feeling so sad for someone who outlived their children even though I have no link with them at all.

Forgot to say I spent 4 hours yesterday researching my ggrandfathers 2nd partner for someone else and I'm about to contact my half uncles second cousin (on the unconnected side) with as much info I can find on her family (my grans first husband)

now he`s looking up where she worked as Nursery maid , was a pregnant single woman working in "big house " -wonder who father is !
